So I was getting my bike ready to put away for the season. I did an oil change, filled the tank and added some stable. Went for a ride and my clutch started to slip at higher speeds. The bike has 70,000km on it and figured it was time for a new clutch. I ordered all new friction plates, steel plates, spring and gasket. I unbolted the clutch cover gave it a few small taps with the rubber mallet and the case cracked.

my questions is can the case be welded? Will JB weld seal this? Or should I bite the bullet and spend the $500 Honda quoted me?

Here is a pic of the crack and location.

Don’t rely on J-Weld, not a permanent fix. Try eBay for a used/salvaged cover. Failing that, could be heliarc welded (aluminum weld) on inside. Then have it powder coated.

What year is your bike? Maybe someone here has one that is scratched but intact.

That can be welded up, but unless you had a Fred Flintstone moment I would be worried about the integrity of the rest of the casing

I would look for a used one

I would try the welding approach first.
Try a local vacational school with a welding program if your wanting to save a few dollars.

This is a converted clamp that I used to take my clutch cover off.
If you take off and reverse the clamping mechanism it pushes.
I placed this between the little flange on the cover and the header and popped it right off.
