My newly acquired 2002 was getting a coolant flush today and when I got it a couple weeks ago it had 7200 miles. I have put about 5oo for far and loving it. When I got the bike upto operating temp and the fans kicked on I was looking at the rectifier and touched it and it was pretty hot. Is that normal? I know there is problems and will work on that eventually. Thanks

Check the 3 wire connector on the right side for any discoloration. Rectifier will get hot which is normal since it handles high current values.

The OEM R/R does run hot.... Mileage wise, you are probably far from any charging issues, but it doesnt hurt to check....
    Got a multimeter?

Then you may as well add a digital voltmeter on the bike so you can watch the trend of what is going on and
you can catch in advance of anything that would leave you stranded. Between Ebay and Amazon, there are a hundred options...

    Here's mine for grins...
