Hello, New here, but have a problem that I was hoping for help with. I have the above bike. I am in the UK, but the bike was originally imported from Germany, so it has a few things different to a UK market bike, like the headlights and smaller diameter forks. As well as all the Covid nonsense, I had a bad quad bike accident on the 1st of August, which crushed the right side of my chest and wrecked my shoulder, so I haven’t ridden a bike for months. The Vfr800 wouldn’t start a few months ago and I thought that this was due to a fuel pump failure. On starting the ignition, the pump could not be heard priming the injectors, although a relay under the seat could be heard clicking. I checked the fuse under the seat, which was fine, so I went ahead and decided to fix the pump. I did this using a kit from eBay to rebuild the existing pump. Putting the pump back in the tank was a bit of a struggle as the boot assembly on the kit housing the in-tank filter was a bit bigger than the OEM item, so it was a bit like getting the ship in the bottle, but it did go in. I then found that all seemed to be well with the new pump whirring away and the bike starting no problem. This happy state of affairs continued for at least a month, although the bike has remained in exactly the same place in the garage for the reason already given. Yesterday, I went into the garage to check on my other bikes and cycle some trickle chargers. I tried to restart the vfr800, but exactly the same problem as before. Now I am presuming that my new pump isn’t at fault (is that reasonable?) and that there is some other problem. A friend suggested the lean angle sensor. Any suggestions please?
Start with the basics, is the connection to the pump sound and snug? You can test this by first unplugging the connector and ensuring 12V is coming to the pump from the relay. If no power, then trace back to the relay... it may be intermittent, perhaps time to swap in a different relay, but if there is no power going to the relay, then go upstream.. test the lean angle sensor and all connections.... Don't forget the ground side as well. It's simply a matter of hunting down why the juice is not going where it should go. Get the wiring diagram out..... I think we'll say the fuel pump is OK for now.
