I want to extend the range of my VFR1200F. I have the stock tank capacity (~5g) that I use-up quickly in city/highway driving (albeit with a aggressive throttle).

To prepare for longer journeys I am considering one of the additions listed below.
Q: Has anyone done this or have another idea?

    (1) Two 30oz MSR aluminum bottles on the underside the rear top-case.

    (2) Attach a 1-Gallon Roto Pax fuel tank - preferably mounted beneath top-case
I may need to get innovative to find the best-fit location around my hard bags.

    Kurtfriedrich,

Thanks for the reply. Now I can see the size of the 1-Gallon Roto Pax relative to my bike

My rear top-case is solid-mounted to the bike and I don't want to remove it. I locked it down to enable permanent wiring of the Case Lights synced with the Brake Lights (along with a light repeater) ... and I use that top-case more than anything to hold large items (my computer).

I prefer a 1 gallon container so I'll determine if I can attach the 1-Gallon Roto Pax somewhere and not look like Rube Goldberg did the work.

I know the easy route is attaching the 30oz MSR aluminum bottles – yet with limited fuel capacity.

Thank you again for the link ... that's a very informative web page.

I toured from the uk through Belgium,Germany ,through the black forrest to Switzerland and back via france , and though I packed a 5 ltr can of gas in one of my panniers I didn't need to use it as I filled up between 140 and 165 miles each time , and by that time my arse needed a rest anyway . next time I go touring I wont bother taking fuel but will still take the jump leads -coz if I run out of THAT juice I am really in trouble.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of mileage are you guys getting out of your 7th gens? I started using fuelly, and so far I'm getting 6l/100km (39mpg)

I agree with lesj48. I usually fuel up at about 160 when my indicator is on the last bar and blinking. That usually means I pump about 4 gallons so I think I can get another 40 on the tank if I had to, but it's nice to get off the bike and walk around, stretch, drink something. This means I'm getting about 40 mpg. (Sometimes it's less in town.)

Hi. Just wondering if you went any further with this? I was thinking of investigating some sort of fuel blader for the bottom 3" of the inside of the top box, with a fuel line and a manual or remote valve to send the fuel to the main tank once it is down. Has anyone tried this?
Another option would be to just put the rotopax on each of the rear pegs. Any thoughts?
