can anyone tell me how and where to conect the leads to is there a live wire i can put it to or do i need to go the battery i got a 2009 vfr thank you
From the day I got my 6th Gen I knew there were going to be some extras to add as and when I could afford them - GPS, heated grips.. So with extras in mind I decided to fit a relay near the battery which provides power only when triggered by an ignition on circuit - there is a 12v ignition on feed to the rear light which you could possibly access. Over time, the extras were simply hooked up to the feed from the new relay and suitably earthed, without further disturbance to the OEM bike loom. Obvious if all you want is to provide power to a low power item like a GPS cradle then you could probably just take power from that feed and the earth on the battery, or indeed connect straight to the battery terminals - but in either approach add a suitaly rated fuse to the live feed - so that if the cradle ever fails or shorts out then the fuse will blow and other systems on your bike will not be affected. But be aware, many GPS unit cradles are designed to supply 5 volts (USB) voltage to the GPS. But as your battery is 12 volt the cradle must therefore incorporate some form of voltage transformer which if permanently connected direct to the battery would continually use a small amount of power 24/7 even when there is no GPS in the cradle and the bike parked. OK that won't be a big issue for a bike ridden daily, but if it is often weeks between rides, or the bike is likely to be stored for months over winter, remember the cradle will still drain power from your battery. So disconnect the battery whenever the bike is not going to be used for long periods. Otherwise you may find it does not have enough energy to prime the Fuel Injection system and start the bike come spring.
You can connect into your rear brake light switch not the green/ yellow but the other one connector under right thigh. It will provide a switched fused live feed. I used to make up harnesses like this which clipped in so saved to having to tap wires your bike needs the 3 pin type of those plugs.
