86 vfr700 has power but won't turn over after slip on install.

    Look dipshit, you instigated this whole thing by name calling like a 6 year old... who does that? You’re not helpful, you called me an idiot, and you’re just an asshole. I’m new, I asked for insight about a problem, and you chimed in to make me feel stupid. I guess that makes you feel good, not sure. I wish you best in your endeavors of being a prick.

    So update and I could really use your expertise... I replaced the diode, the starter solenoid, and the plug... what a ya know, the bike fired right up, once. I turned off, put my fairing and seat back on, no more crank, no click, no nothing. Checked all my connections, everything looks fine. Is this bike somehow frying solenoids? Anything else I should look at? Battery is new too. I just can’t believe that it fired up and then immediately wouldn’t after I turned it off.

    I am happy it started but I would have replaced one item at a time to isolate the issue. No worries .... OK so my started button fried when my diode went out. The solder joint was cooked. Have you looked inside the switch? Check the new diode and does the solenoid click as The Captain stated. Remember that electrical current is like water...it flows .... somewhere there is a "stop" in that flow.

    Check to see if the headlight is turning off when you press the start button, that will tell you if the start button wiring is intact, but not a guarantee the whole switch is OK. Also make sure all of your heavy battery leads are tight; at the solenoid, on the starter and on your battery. Also, screwdriver tight is often not tight enough for the battery hardware. I've "fixed" quite a few other people's bikes with a 10mm wrench on the battery bolts.

    Yes the headlight is turning off when I hit the button. I’ve got everything tightened down as much as I can and I’m still getting nothing. I’m afraid the new Silenoid that I ordered might just be shit. It was just an eBay one. When I tried to jump it with the jumper cables it just turned the starter over and over and over again and wouldn’t stop until I unplug the battery. I’ll probably order a Honda genuine part and see if that fixes the issue.
    I’m also going to take a harder look at the pushbutton start and see if there’s something I missing. Thank you six dog for chiming in.

    If the headlight goes out, the button is likely just fine.

    You bought a shit solenoid. I would rather buy a used Honda one than a new cheap (non honda) one.

    Things like fuel pumps, starters, solenoids... all that kind of stuff... go Honda or stay home.

    Check the fuses by the key, that was one of my problems.
