Roadsmart3 are excellent, as are Bridgestone T30Evo and T31. Metzeler Roadtec01 also but more expensive. Those are my four of choice from what I've used. Currently on Michelin Road 5 which was all I could get at short notice on lockdown, they're fine so far but not enough miles to judge yet.

The Roadtec 01 se are the new 'improved' version, I had the regular roadtec 01 on a different bike a few years ago, was very happy with them, might try the new se version next time round.

Just got back from a trip to Pembrokeshire. Round trip of 550 miles or so.
Got back today, avoided the motorways and did the A40 from Pembroke all the way to London then the A406 North Circular Road to take me home to Hertfordshire.
Weather was at times dry and sunny but mainly it was crap! Very heavy rain around Cheltenham and again from Oxford all the way to just outside London. The driest bits were, funnily enough, in Wales. But basically from the English border it was either heavy rain, v heavy rain or rain..
Glad to report that the Avon Storms were superb. No issues, just performed as tyres should perform. I like these tyres, great in the dry and in the wet.

Thinking about tires, I was just cleaning off the chain grease from my rear rim when I noticed that the tire arrow was pointing backward. Dang, I should have checked that the tire mechanic put it on correctly before putting the wheel back on the bike. I haven't crashed as a result, but I suppose we should all be more careful about this. Or is it a non-issue?

I think the rotation is specified primarly to help water dispersal. So if its fitted the wrong way around you are at higher risk of aquaplaning - so I would get back to the fitter and have that sorted asap.

Suffice to say as I trust my garage to do it right, your post inspired me to check mine whilst doing my pre ride check today (fortunately all good), only to discover the rear has lost 0.5 bar (7lbs) pressure over just the last week. Hitherto it never looses pressure. and the Front was still correct. So I carefully checked the rear tyre expecting to find a nail or other damage. But again there was nothing obvious so for now I simply corrected the rear pressure and will be checking regularly to see if the pressure holds. I don't really want to replace a tyre which has only done 1,500 miles, or perhaps this a sign it is time to buy an 8th Gen :)

I'd also think mostly for water dispersion, although we should always have them on right way around..... let the mechanic know but ride it until it's done.

Rotation is also about how the tire was constructed to deal with braking or acceleration forces. Get it corrected.

"The other big reason for noting wheel direction has to do with the manufacturing process. The tread rubber is initially a flat strip that's cut to length, at an angle, and then spliced together with the two ends overlapping, creating a hoop. Under acceleration, a tire mounted backwards will try to peel back this splice. The opposite is true for the front wheel, where directional forces are reversed under hard braking."
