Couldn't say no ... sooooo

In my never ending quest for nice clean 80's bikes I ran across this ass kicker. Thought it would look nice in the garage.... 1,700 miles, original owner, new tires and just super clean.... 1986 FZ750. Like it is stated , couldn't afford not to buy it.

1,700 miles. An annual mileage of 50 miles.
And I thought I was doing well with a 1,700 mile VFR800FiW from 1998.

5-valve genesis engine, nice find but you wouldn't have got it cheap.

i believe there was some question at the time as to whether yamaha had actually built enough Fz's to qualify under homologation rules. certainly, there are 100 times more '86 vfr's floating around now than 750 fz's.

i had a yammie '86 fazer for awhile, same genesis engine, a true powerhouse. sold the fazer cuz the engine was far more advanced than the suspension and cornering capabilities.

the engine has a very linear power curve with no spikes or dips, but, reputedly, valve adjustment can be a nightmare.

Nice find, amazing how these things still pop up like that all these years later. The '86 was way better looking than the '85 model. Far more passenger friendly than my GSXRs ever were.

One of my good friends in college had the same '86 bike, really sounded great when we put a V&H Supersport exhaust on it. I had an '87 full faired 700cc for a while (red/white scheme), actually found a NOS race system in Canada for it (can't remember the brand, but IIRC they sponsored Ruben McMurter back in '87).

I thought the stock bars had a weird angle to them and the tank to seat junction was pretty narrow as well, otherwise decent bike, long wheelbase was good for drag launches, engine liked to rev for sure. 26k valve adjustment intervals from factory, I'd hedge no reason to worry about that pita project for a long time!
