Hello all, I’m a 1 month 98 vfr owner 12k miles and want to know what all I should and shouldn’t do to it. I’ve already downloaded a delkevic slip on, k/n air filter, snorkel/flapper mod (I think) and oil and coolant change. My horn, brake lights, and turn signals all went out at the same time, but as far as I know everything else works fine.
((((tail lights come on but don’t get brighter when braking, hand or foot levers. Front turn signals come on solid with key turn, but turn off when applying turn signal switch. Rear turn signals don’t come on at all, but the bulbs are intact, and work in the brake light sockets. Replacement fuse burnt out immediately)))) [IMG]

Thanks! I was going to look at a silver 03 with 4K miles but the guy didn’t get back to me the day i was going out to his area. Me and my dad found this one close by and went to see it the next weekend. The rest is history lol.

Welcome to VFRW 96_Sokudo. How many miles had you ridden before the electrical problem showed up? It sounds like you have a short to ground somewhere after the fuse. Maybe at some point a mouse chewed through the insulation around a wire or two. I don't know why they like to strip wires, but I have seen it happen many times. Most recently in a skid-steer a week ago. There was a nest near some wire and they must have used some of the wire insulation to build the nest. It was shorted to ground so that the ignition was dead.

I hope you find it soon and that it is simple to fix. The fifth gen is a wonderful choice, and we all know that the red ones are the fastest!

Congrats on the new viffer! I can't believe how beautiful the paint looks after 22 years. You're gonna love it. Think about upgrading the suspension with DMr.

Have you traced the source of your "short"?

Yep, brake lever connection was contacting the handlebar. My dad helped me adjust it so it wasn’t touching. Could have been caused by a drop, which I may or may not have been responsible for.

If you have fixed your problems with it, then the next best thing to do to it is ride the bitch...often!
