Hey im new to this bike and I have had trouble finding any exhaust systems for this bike. my question is could i just cut off the mufflers and weld new ones in? if I do that would i have to adjust the carbs or do any tuning?

Ideally, you should. Even stock bikes can benefit from an increase to the pilot jets. But depending on which mufflers you choose, you could probably get away with adjusting the fuel screws to help the idle and startup and reduce deceleration popping.

Don't you dare cut up nice stock mufflers. If yours are decent, find some that aren't, and hack those off.

And you don't have to have anything welded. You can have a slip-fit connecting pipe made at a muffler shop.

    And there are systems available.

    That would definitely need re-jetting.

    2"

A muffler shop can expand the tubing to be slip fit over the bike exhaust and expanded to be the right diameter to slip in the I.D. of mufflers.

also do other exhausts from other bikes fit this one? for example would an 86 vfr 700 exhaust fit an 86 vfr 750?

Sorry, I mis-spoke. The outside diameter of the exhaust at where you would cut off the muffler is under 2". But it doesn't matter, a muffler shop can make what you need to connect that to whatever mufflers you want.

    86 VFR700 and 750 are identical.

Here's what you'll have left after cutting off muffler (left side)

Then you'll have something made to connect to whatever mufflers you want. (right side)

This is what came with Kerker slip-ons. I can be even simpler than this, but will need a bend put in it. If a muffler shop seems confused, find another one. This is some simple shit.
