Hi Folks, I have seen other threads for this topic, and have followed the suggested solutions, but still no joy. Original issue was the bike was ticking over at around 2000 when warm. The adjuster wasn't doing anything. Decided to replace the cable and the wax valve (while I was there). Also replaced both throttle cables as one was very rusty. Now the bike starts fine from cold, idles around 2000. Gets to about 40ºC and rises to around 3000, then rises again around 70ºC to 4000. Throttle and cables are ok, responds fine and cables not getting caught anywhere. Coolant level is ok. Have run the bike till the fan kicks in, and level has not dropped. All hoses are hot to touch, and giving them a squeeze doesn't produce any air bubbles. Wax valve is brand new, and the cable was just seized. Bit of a clean up and its as good as new. Any suggestions, ideas, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Never mind. It's sorted now (hopefully). The linkage in the throttler body appears to have been sticky, as a bit of WD40, and some gentle persuasion, seems to have sorted it out.
Good to hear that you found the problem. May I make a suggestion? While WD40 is a good rust inhibitor, and can help to loosen sticky parts, as it ages it becomes sticky itself and can cause the problem to return. If it were my bike I would use a better lube. Mineral oil based, silicone,..... anything other than WD40.
WD40 is mostly naptha and a wee bit of oil... better lube is AC50, and if you find dirt accumulating, use something else (drier) that doesn't attract dirt.... but that may not be an issue.
Thanks for the advice. Just a habit to use WD40. Never thought to look for anything else, but what you say makes sense.
