front fender removal

Hey all,
Quick question, have you ever removed the front fender? is there a trick to getting it out from between the forks?

I have it all un bolted and loose but I don't want to scratch it all up trying to force it through the forks. I and installing a fender extender and need to get it out to install it. Any tips would be appreciated.

Never mind I got it.

In case you are interested you squeeze the back mounts in so it fits through the forks. probably a no brainer but I'm kinda slow sometimes.

Remove the front wheel as well (or just loosen the axle off) and the forks will spread a little.

 

Just a little update, Jeff is probably right about removing the front wheel, The fender came out fine but after installing the fender extender it was more difficult to get back in due to the brake lines and the added length of the fender. I did it but I now have a little scratch on the top of the fender (the first scratch is the hardest). lesson learned.

 

You Can install the fender extender with the mudguard in place.

 

Another tid bit on your fenders. The holes that are on the fender to hold it to the forks are really small. You can easily split those tabs if you tighten those screws the slightest bit too much even though they have a collar around them. Even on a brand new fender. Roll up a piece of sand paper and sand the paint off the inside sides of those openings.

 

Did my front fork oil replacement last night, the hardest part was getting the front fender off and back on, ended up scratching it though ggggggrrrrrrr.
There must be a way...
