Agree. I had a couple weekend warrior “bikers” try and run me off the road years ago while on my ‘73 Yamaha TX650. While I like some of the bikes, especially old ones, I find the average HD rider leaving much to be desired

Oh, come on and just say that, as a population they're followers of group think, smugness, and weak thinkers.

I was looking over FB Marketplace at the used H-D offering and it dawned on my why I was never a Harley-Davidson fan. Every bike and every design, with the exception of a few Sportsters, carries the DNA of the Knuckle head design. The Softtail mimics the frame line of a hard tail. The running boards, the lighting and the ride position all are designed to invoke a visions of yesteryear. That's fine. I have ridden them and I get it. But I am a more "form follows function" kind of guy. There have been huge advancements in engineering since the 1940s. Motorcycle in general handle better, run longer and with less maintenance. I appreciate classic bikes but I don't want to ride them.

I ride motorcycles and started riding in the 70s. I like bikes that work. In the past I did not care for Harley bikes because they vibrated to much and were high maintenance. With the introduction of the Mt. Rushmore Harley bikes I finally like Harley bikes, but they are expensive and require proprietary maint. IMHO. I had a 2006 Suzuki C90 and I loved it. When I did test rides in 2016 on a Harley Road King, Electra, FatBoy, and a Heritage, I fell in love with the Heritage. I still love both of my VFRs (2k &05 VTEC), and decided to trade my Suzuki C90T for the 2016 Heritage. When I traded my Suzuki C90 and bought my Heritage back in 2016 I also paid for a maintenance contract, unlimited oil changes, tire and battery insurance. To date I have not regretted my Harley purchase. I would say if you do not have money for a new Harley and a maintenance contract or a certified used Harley from a dealership with a maintenance contract then good luck. You get what you pay for. My Harley is a much better bike than the Jap cruisers I have owned from the 70s to the present. Yes a lot of Harley riders are azzholes, but they were that way before buying a Harley. Yes, buying and owning a Harley is expensive so if you do not have the money or choose not to spend the money it costs to own a Harley so be it. My VFRs are my daily rides and for tristate rides. For long and cross country rides and MC rallies I use my Harley.

I know there are already a lot of stories bitching about the riders... so I'd love to join in.

Was going on highway 1 in California. There was a huge formation of about 50 riding slow, side by side, on the right lane. There were several gaps between the pair of riders in which gave me plenty of space to get in between in order to get to the soon upcoming off ramp. Nope, they sped up to close the gap after seeing the turn signal. On a 70mph freeway I had to slow down to slightly below 40ish in order not to miss the exit.

Now I live in Poland and they're also weird. Everyone gives each other the peace sign except the Harley riders. I've never had problems with any other type of rider beyond scooter riders. Scooter dudes either don't care at all or think they're too sophisticated for a motorcycle. Had one yell at me, at the light, for my exhaust. ugh.

You should never interrupt a ride formation. If your behavior is an example of how wannabe independent riders act in your area then Harley riders are not the only Motorcycle entities that do not have any respect for you. Independent riders with no knowledge of MC protocol get no respect from any rider that practices proper MC etiquette or any MCs. Take a look in the mirror.

Oh balls. Since when did Harely groups get parade permits for every time they ride. I could give a rat's ass whether Harley riders have any respect for me. If they want to ride in groups and ride below the speed limit, then they will get their "protocol" busted. Total BS.

No one said anything about permits. Its about etiquette, protocol and common sense. Your lack of respect for self and others shows your ignorance.

My ignorance? I've been riding bikes for over 55 years, and this "protocol" is BS put out by newbie biker-outlaw wannabes who think
they're special because they dress in Harley tee shirts and ride those bad-ass Harley's. The ignorance being displayed is the attitude
that "We're bad, we're special, we're Harley riders". Just a bunch of poseurs. Yeah, that word is spelled correctly.

And "common sense"? Where is any common sense exhibited when the road is blocked by slow moving traffic, and you're not supposed to pass due to "protocol" and "etiquette"? Funerals? Sure. Parades? Sure. Gaggle of poorly ridden motorcycles? Not a chance.

If you wanna judge people and take a negative approach that's just what you are about. All Harley riders are not the same and neither are Metric riders. A lot of people have a negative attitude towards Harley riders - Yeah a lot of Harley riders are simply not nice people, and sadly those are the ones a lot of people meet and seem to have issues with. A lot of metric sportbike riders I ride with and have ridden with and some I meet on the road and at events ride dirty, have no knowledge or respect for MC culture and no idea about protocol or respect for the safety of others on public roads, do stunts on the street and highway, just to mention a few things. If you have no class or respect for others then you are the one with the problem so enjoy yourself. There are all kinds of riders, cruisers, stunters, MC riders and Rider Groups, Outlaws, wannabes, and everyone wants to judge and choose who and what to respect. A lot of wanna be riders with sportbikes are squids that take pride at being reckless fools. Like I previously said a lot of Harley and metric riders were foolish and obnoxious people before they got a bike. So be it.

    emon07,
I see your points, and as the owner of several types of bikes, you have a broad experience. Still, ponder this if you would: If the OP Polaku had been riding a Harley instead of some other bike, (he did not specify, perhaps a VFR) would it have been more likely for him to have been let in, to cross over to the exit?

Before this quarantine, I was spending many days driving a light commercial vehicle. Every day, when I needed to change lanes, some people would stay back and allow me to when they saw my signal come on. Some would surge past, so as not to get caught behind. But what seemed like the majority would pull up, and sit right next to the trailer, so that I was boxed in and unable to move over. And stay there, for miles. Request denied. As you say, foolish and obnoxious people... don't need a bike.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you say, and yes, lots of squids out there on all kinds of bikes. You know why a lot of people have a negative attitude toward Harley riders? It's like the old joke "99% of all lawyers give the rest a bad name". Harley riders have earned that negative attitude for the most part.

Please expand on this "MC culture" and "protocol and respect". And give me a good rational explanation of why I shouldn't be able to pass a gaggle of slow moving motorcycles, in a safe manner.

You don't know me, know nothing about me, so don't try to come across like you do. I don't hate Harley riders per se, in fact I don't hate any motorcycle riders, except ones that put people at risk. I also hate car drivers who do the same thing.

Yep your ignorance, It have been riding bikes since 1964 and have seen things come and go. I am well versed in MC culture and protocol. I have started Rider Groups, MCs, written MC bylaws and helped MCs become 501c organizations. I am also a Certified Advanced Rider coach amongst other personal and scholastic accomplishments. Sounds like you got a complex and why are you paying so much attention to others lol. I guess you are here to judge people lmao.
