aniversary model wheels

my pride and joy is the 50th aniversary model with silver wheels.
I want to do something with the wheels but i can't tell if the wheels are painted silver, or alloy with a laquer coating, any advice would be greatfully recieved

 

Ian, they are painted silver. Under the paint the edges and front face (rear only) are a smooth machined finish while the spokes and centers are rough sand cast. Removing the paint provides an acceptably clean look but the raw aluminium is susceptible to corrosion. Powder coating is probably the best option unless you have an expert painter.

I was thinking of polishing the wheels, but i think you are right powdercoating does seem to be the better option.

I think that Mark Bensons vfr with the red wheels and polished rims looks realy good to me

Powdercoating is the way to go. My brother does this at his shop and I had him do my rims last winter and they look better than original. The best part is if it chips it wont spread and because the stuff is baked and bonded to the metal and there is no chance of corrosion getting under the powdercoat, even from a chip. Also no waterspots can stick (at least from my expirience) and brake dust/dirt wipes off with a wet rag so easyly I wish I could powdercoat my whole bike, fairings and all.  

 

I'll trade you a set of black wheels for your silver ones. I've always wanted silver wheels.

 

Save the money on the wheels and get the rest of the bike looking right !

Sorry, but the anniversary paintjob makes me want to puke..

 

jealousy can do this as well! I love this paint scheme and the new 25th anniversary as well. If I ever were to update to 6th gen (no point really in going backwards) it would be for this new paint scheme.

 

I love my 50th anniversary paint job too! Maybe Mr, Rogue is too young to remember the early factory RCs. Those colors stir the soul!

 

Sadly not too young..

The only thing those colours stir (on a VFR) is my breakfast...I even had to ride one for a while whilst mine was in for some repair work. It does look best from the rider's perspective..:wink:
