Sidi Canyon Sympatex Boots

I purchased these last summer to replace my faithful 10yo USAF issued steel toe & shank linemans boots. I paid $225 at a local dealer. I wanted a boot that was a "motorcyle" boot & looked like one. I also wanted a boot that I could put in a full day of walking & light hiking.

Pros:
fantastic quality of workmanship & materials
very comfy & no binding around the ankles, comfortable enough to do light hiking in (yes I have done it)
"real" sole, one that is actually suitable for something other than riding (see hiking above)
super strong velcro
supposed to be waterproof (I'll have to take their word until I ride with them in the rain)
adjustment strap lets rider tailor the snugness to suit
absolutely no trouble with the boot fitting under the shift lever

Cons:
price (you get what you pay for I guess)
as is typical to any Euro motorcycle apparrel company they run SMALL which makes shopping via the internet for bargains a crap shoot at best, MAKE SURE YOU TRY THEM ON BEFORE BUYING THEM ONLINE

All in all, I would give these boots a 9.5 out of 10.

Thanks for the info, I was saving up for a pair. Where'd you get that price it's running 250 everywhere I looked.

Plus it actually ran large when I wore them in a store...hmmmm....I guess i'll have to try them at the shop to make sure.

 

I purchased them at a dealer that gives a 10% discount to the military & NJ doesn't charge sales tax on clothing or shoes.

Make sure you bring the socks you intend to wear with the boots when you try them on & walk around for at least 10 minutes. If you can hop on a bike similar to yours while wearing them, that's a plus too.

Just like the rain suit, I torrential downpour rain tested these boots today. My feet stayed dry at the 10-25 mph speeds of the MSF ERC & at the 45-60 mph drive home. Again, these boots are awesome & I would recommend them to anyone.

I like 'em.

I'm shopping for winter/waterproof boots right now, and they look like exactly what I need.
Just about perfect.

However...
I really need the next-best thing, similar, but 1/2 the price.

I looked at the Joe Rocket Sonic boots. The reasons I chose the Sidi Canyon Sympatex:

1) That's all Sidi does. They only make boots & they make some of the best money can buy.
2) The Canyon has a real sole on it. Most of the motorcycle boots on the market have a sole like the one on the JR Sonic. I wanted a sole that has real traction.
3) The Canyon has a tall upper. This might just be my personal preference but I like a tall boot.

The JR Sonics are cool-looking, but I'm not sure about having all that plastic everywhere.
I've had Joe Rocket boots in recent years, and although they've held up, they seemed to degrade quite a bit fairly quickly.

I'm very close to getting the Tour Master Solution ($106- best price I've found), except I'd really prefer a more rugged sole like the Sidis.
The leather on the TM's feels strong yet supple, and Genuine Leather.
Many M/C boots advertise "Leather", but it turns out to be one of the many imitation leathers.
Plus, the Tour Masters just fit my feet perfectly. Immediately snug & comfy when I tried them.
None of the Euro brands have fit quite right.
If the TM's had the sole from the Sidis I'd already be wearing them!

My budget is basically "lowest possible cost, at all times", except I'll stretch it for certain things that really matter like decent boots.
A difference in price of $20 buys a lot of commuting miles or almost a set of (badly needed) brake pads.

No doubt Sidi makes top-shelf boots, but they're clearly proud of them!

I have a pair of the SIDI's too. They are the low end race boot. Cost $220.00 and I can't remember the name, but the point is THEY ROCK! Best boots I have owned by far. I do not see buying anything different when the time comes.

KC, you're right the SIDI's are a better boot. The only reason I mentioned the JR's is he was looking for a lower priced boot.

I've had a pair of Sidi Evos for 20,000 miles. They are the only truly waterproof piece of gear I have. The soles are pretty slippery because I've worn the grip off, but other than that they're still in good shape. Highly recommend Sidis.

 

If you're looking for a decent, waterproof pair of boots that are adequate (maybe not ideal but adequate) for the rigors of motorcycle riding, look at Belleville military boots. You can generally get them for far less than MSRP.

They make the current USAF flight boot, the model 700, the model 770 is the same thing with 200 grams of Thinsulate & that's what I wear whenever I ride my bike to work.

I Sprang For A Pair Of These Sidi Canyon Sympatex Boots Over One Year Ago (10,000 Plus Miles), And They Are By Far The Best Boots I Have Ever Owned. I Have Been Riding For 41 Plus Years. I Use Them For Both My Vfr And My Dual-sport. They Have Remained Faithful In All Sorts Of Conditions. 100 Plus Heat-20 Degree Snow Capped Mtn Pass-torrential Down Pour-you Name It. My Feet Luv Em. I Ride 12 Months Out Of The Year 200 Plus Miles Each Weekend And These Boots Feel Great-look Great-function Flawlessly-show Minimal Wear And Tear-fit My Riding Style, Keep Me From Fallin On My Ass, Etc... I Would Recommend Them To Any One. Good Equipment Is Money Well Spent.

 

Anyone found it difficult to find the right size? The 44 feels great but I need to cinch the latch 100% and even then its just starting to snug up.

The 43 is tight to the point at where I can hardly get my foot in the boot, never mind cinching it up.

I will buy a pair tomorrow if I can figure them out.

 

Ah bought them anyway. A set of insoles fixed the issue. Love the boots, however I need to adjust my shifter up a bit now.

Never noticed the cool red reflectors before.

 

What red reflectors?

They are in the small hole cut outs on the cinch strap, on the outside in the small holes (halfway up) and under the buckle thingy... I saw them light up from across the room, kinda freaked me out at first. Don't think they will provide any safety though, kinda hidden and small.
