What those tables do is create mild traction on your back that relieves the pain, and also helps to allow a herniation or soft interior matter in the disc to retreat back into the disc's more stiff, outer shell. Thing is with a herniated disc though, is you need to allow time for the weak outer part of the disc to heal, and therefore hold in the soft insides. I think this table would definitely help with that over the long term, but the pain relief side of it is enough to go get one.

There are all sorts of them out there for sale. They can be expensive but you could probably get the same benefit from a less expensive one. I suspect the quality of the unit would suffer with the cheapness of the price though. You may be able to rent one from the American Red Cross for a week or two to see if you benefit from it before you spend money on buying one.

Like to try it since now I’m dealing with Sciatica in my leg, wonder if it would help.
Driving for a living definitely doesn’t help

I am pretty sure it will help out that way. Another way to deal with that is to just grab a chin up bar and then bend you knees and hang there for a while. The weight of your legs hanging there will also act as mild traction. It was explained me that using the invertible table or the chin up bar, you should hang for a minute or so then go back to the normal position then repeat a few times.

Probably would help. Along with ice. People often make the mistake of using heat right off on an injury as it feels good. What you need is ice a bunch of times a day for several days followed by heat then ice again. The heat/ice creates vascular pumping that helps heal quickly, but you only want to do after you have swelling down and also make sure it is not a more serious injury. I taught Judo for a long time, became very good at healing. lol

Yea I'm a tightwad with these sorta things, then there's the space issue in where to put it. then there's the thought I'd find one on Craigslist and the sort as new seems to me a way to throw good money away, so yea the hunt is on. For motivation I'll put it in the garage with the bikes ;)

They can fold up flat against the wall, takes up little space. But the trick I think is to put it on a porch or somewhere so you can use it immediately. I'm heading to mine right now. lol

Is that what white wheels look like? I was so embarrassed when I finally pulled up in the Safeway parking lot in Enumclaw (after having to buy a battery in Duvall on the way!!) and had to see those white wheels. Ugh.

I have an inversion table and it doesn't help me and my back issue. Hydrocodone PRN does help. Before anyone says it's evil, understand there are a few people that can self-dose with discipline and there are a few doctors that will work with people like that. I am one of those people with one of those doctors. I've taken hydrocodone as needed (and not when not needed) for 16 years. I am not a drug addict and am living proof that some people can self dose well. My life would be miserable without pain relief now and then. Surgery is not an option,,,yet. Back surgery is usually evil. Now for the hydro lectures......LOL! Can someone please send me some 420? Ironically, it's illegal in my state. What a fucked up world.....

Prescription hydrocodone is a medication consisting of synthetic opiates and a small amount of aceteminephin (sp?) combined to enhance the effect of the opiate so less is required. Yes, I take an opiate drug PRN. I can go weeks without it and days with it. On and off as needed. There are very few people that can do that. I can.

Approximately 2% of the population does not respond to morphine. I have always been one of the 2%. Morphine has always done nothing for me having to do with pain. Chronic pain CAN be treated successfully for a FEW people with opiates. Just as some people can control alcohol consumption, though opiates are not meant to be "recreational". So there you have an example of one person. My diagnosis, today, means surgery would not be the right thing to do. Someday, maybe. I am getting genetic testing done this week for other kinds of pain not treated with opiates. Hydrocodone does nothing to me but relieve pain. No drowsiness, no affect on reaction time, just pain relief. Believe it or not.

In a controlled manner, opiates can be used for a life time for the control of chronic pain. I have been on them since the early 80's. through three surgeries and a bout of temporary paralysis. If you are not careful with them though they are addictive. And over time, they do become less effective. That is where I am right now. I have to take the full prescribed amount to get temporary pain relief. So to counter that, I plug through some pain all the time and just take what I need when I have trouble with rest, when I take the pills. I take one called Emtec which is acetaminophen and codeine. Basically a Tylenol 3 without the caffeine. The next step for me if I live that long is Tylenol 4 (60 mgs codeine vs 30 mgms for t3's) Or possibly morphine which the doc has suggested for me years ago, but I declined for use for chronic pain.

Well, we both know what it's like. Yes, I have a certain amount of pain about half the time but only take a pill when I really need it. After a very serious surgery in 2010, I had to take percocet and alternate with dilaudid for several weeks. There was no withdrawal at all but very good almost level 10 pain relief. Morphine did nothing for me. dilaudid is very very strong stuff but no withdrawal at all. I was glad to get off it and not need it. I had 100 stitches and 60 staples in me for a while.

Few people can control it like you and me. I would bet, like me, you get really tired of the "do gooders" that want to ban all opiates for everybody all the time. I wish them yours and my pain all the time. They would change their tune then. Chronic pain ruins lives. A lot of people don't have a clue what that means. I wish you well.

Thanks. I do get by quite well and have a terrific doctor. But I am now awaiting another visit with the neuro surgeon some day, soon I hope. Yes. Why should I suffer because someone abused their opiate medications, usually after doctor shopping. I would just prefer those do gooders just fuck off and leave me I relative peace and comfort thank you very much. I wouldn't need them if it were not for a chosen career looking after complainers.
