Is it the tappets that need checking or the cam belt tensioner

Hey people. My name is Andy, I've recently just got this VF off my Dad as it was his bike many many years ago due to me being in a seriously bad motorcycle accident just over a year and a half ago on my R1.
So my Dad felt sorry for me as I didn't have a motorbike after the accident and thought I should have something to encourage me to get back On My Feet after I broke my back in 6 places. I use to always tell him when I was a teenager that I really liked this bike, So as a get well present he decided to give me the vf.
Anyway cut a long story short my dad gave me this bike and it hadn't run for over 25 years and was all in little bits in boxes in the corner of the garage. So a few months later after I was able to walk I'll be going to put it all back together. Bodywork was all black and grey that had paint stripper all down it which caused all the original paint to come off and and just look like a piece of crap. Anyway I decided to spray their bearings buy rattle can and use Halfords own brand of paints and then took the the fairings and tank to a pain specialist to have it properly lacquered.
After this the bike was all put back together and believe it or not it actually started up for a brief moment. After this I had the carbs all sonic cleaned and all new parts inside installed n,ew battery, new starter motor, new diaphragms, new oil and filter, spark plugs, and lots and lots of other new parts fitted. I then got the bike MOT'd and have been running it and put over 1000 miles on it with no issues. Until today when it started sounding like a diesel and really rattly at the front end of the engine, this is why I need some sort of help to know what I need to start looking for or to replace. The oil level is still Spot On and I haven't lost any or gained any smoke from the engine...

I haven't got a clue what's going on. Help needed please guys

You will need to get the front valve cover off and check the cam chain tension. It could also be a broken valve spring.
