Hello VFR enthusiasts, I am new to this group and will be looking for a bit of advice from time to time. I have a VFR750FL (1990) that I have started restoring. The Motocycle is in reasonable condition given that it is 30 years old with 69,000klm. The clutch has started slipping and the paints a bit faded, so time to give it a bit of love. I have also just acquired a VFR800F (2015) as a daily rider while the 750 gets a bit of ,much needed attention.

Polish before you paint. Red paint is one of the worst colours for fading and oxidizing but that usually can be polished out. It is far cheaper and easier to do. Then if that is not good enough, you can paint. It does look to be in decent shape though.

The Clear coat has start pealing in a couple of small areas. Tried polishing... did improve the paint, but not to the standard I am after.

There does come the time you have to repaint. I will do mine for the second time next winter. I repainted in 2012 but I put some serious km on mine. I was going to do it this winter but I am off to Alaska so might as well wait till after that trip. No graphics this time though.

Ordered a set of the main decals over flea bay, and the balance from my local Honda dealer. The bike goes really well (apart form the clutch which I am waiting on parts for, so it would be nice to have it looking 100%. Have changed all the fasteners over to stainless steel, new bearings in the headstock, flushed the brakes, new clutch slave cylinder, all the normal stuff has been done, so time to attend the cosmetics. The CBR1000F I have had form new and it is immaculate, as the VFR750 is my favourite bike, I would like to get it close to the same standard.

Where did you get your stainless fasteners from? I was actually thinking about getting my fairing bolts al black chromed, but stainless would be nice too. I polished the OEM down to shine like chrome but now they will leave a little rust on the panels.

When I got my panels back from being painted the first time, and saw it pure white, with no graphics at all on it, I just about left it all white but I was looking forward to getting the my panel graphics put on. But I am kind of tired of them now. I can get them again if I want as the company who dod them for me just pushes a couple keys and they get printed off on 3M reflective vinyl and applied to the bike. The wing is missing from the tank but I have no interest really, in putting that back on .

Unfortunately the clear is just flaking off. The bike has been resprayed before on a couple of the panels. When I pressure wash it I lose a bit more of the clear coat.... took the fairing off yesterday, into the spray painters today IMG_2143.jpeg IMG_2141.jpeg

    Yes it is.. a 1990 906 with 13,000klm.
Nice to look at, but the VFR750 is much nicer to ride. I was doing a bit of restoration work on the Paso, but after buying the VFR750 it’s been pushed to one side and I have started restoring the VFR750 instead. Picked up a VFR800F as a daily rider.

Carb. The 907 was the injected model. It also has 16 inch rims.

I can understand that. The 906 is great to look at, but the VFR is so much nicer to ride.

Fairings are back. Sent off the engine cases, rims and clip-ons bars to be powder coated.
