What are some of your experiences and advice regarding stator replacements, from OEM to whatever else? I've heard good and bad about some aftermarket units, and of course OEM units being pricey, which although reliable might drive oneself to the cheaper units based on finances alone.

But what makes one better than the other? Which ones have proven reliability? Which one have you used or would recommend? Places to buy? Other model bikes that share the same unit?

I thought this might make a good thread as well as educate myself.

OEM are the best bet for reliability.
Some bad stuff available on the net, if it's cheap, it's normally rubish.
Other option is to get it rewound by someone who specialises on motorcyle stators.

I have an OEM rewound but that only lasted about 1000 miles before burning out.

An OEM replacement was too expensive and was going to take too long to arrive so I purchased one from https://www.electrexworld.co.uk/

The stotor received from electrex world is high quality and looks better than OEM imo. It's been fitted and has lasted longer than the rewound OEM and is still going strong after about 3000 miles or so.

Talking stator only, there is a reputable Canadian supplier of stators who should back up their stuff - RM Stator. I ordered one for my other Honda (under C$200) and when it arrived, Made in China. I would guess all cheaper ones listed are from China... hard to sneeze at a $50 one when an OEM costs 5 times that. So, if the OEM scares you off, buy two Chinese ones by ordering direct. However, if you're not going to convert to a mofset regulator or at the very least put a new OEM one in, you're risking blowing another stator IMHO.

Thanks raYzerman. Not to get off my own topic, but I should receive my Mosfet from Roadstercycle tomorrow. I also have to rewire the keyed ignition to the harness due to a burnt wire. After all is installed, I'll do a complete test on the stator. The stator harness and plug look great right now with no burns. I figured I'd present the question regarding stators not only for my knowledge but for others in future searches.

You can do the standard stator check without the bike running, just follow the manual. Basically, no shorts between each yellow wire, or to ground and resistance reasonably in range. Good move on the mofset, that will most likely keep you from needing a stator.... wire up a voltmeter to keep an eye on it, you should get some warning indications if it's deteriorating.
I just got my Roadstercycle RR as well, my stator plug is fried but the stator still tests OK. I won't likely get to mine for a couple of weeks.
