Hi all, I need to replace my left fork leg because I suspect the lower is mis-shapen because I can't get it oil tight, have replaced lower bush, upper bush, back-up ring and seal and still not sealing, would a vf750 fork fit as they are easier to get hold of, many thanks.

    The VF1000 has 41mm forks, while the 83-85 VF700/VF750F has 39mm forks.

An option is to find another front end with 41mm forks with the same total length and see if they will fit. Probably cheaper just to find another set.

Usually, the oil seal will not seal due to pits in the fork slider.

These pits will rust. The rust is raised above the level of the surrounding metal and will cut the seal as it is either installed or as it moves during normal riding. Honda OEM is the only way to go - all others fail in short order.

There are lots of posts on how to replace an fork oil seal so it won't leak. Here's mine: http://vfrworld.com/forums/39314-post1.html

There are a pair of Honda 1000R forks on flea Bay. The ones with the quick release "endurance racing" axle clamps. 41mm.

The oil is leaking on the outside of the seal and not round the slider, they are pattern seals so Perhaps I should try original before doing anything else. I have found a parts supplier here in the uk that sells the fork lower/slider for the 85-86 model but says they have a different part number to my 84 model so can't say it would fit, does anyone know what differance there is in the forks of these two models, thanks for any help:biggrin:

As a last ditch, try spraying some carb cleaner on the seals. It makes rubber swell up.

or a little bit of automatic transmission fluid. I used to run straight ATF in my vf500 forks when they started to go. ATF allowed them to swell and last 6 more months of riding
