    Hi all,

I have a 2004 VFR800 which sadly last year rusted through it's exhaust around the area near the cat. Rust wise it was too far gone to be welded so the mechanic replaced the exhaust headers but the cat had to go as well.

So my situation now is that I'm running stock everything apart from the missing cat. In general this is ok however when touring those riding behind me are complaining of some serious fuel smells so obviously things aren't running quite right.

So i'm looking to you wonderful people for some advice that may help. Will a power commander fix it? What about o2 eliminators?

I've been through various threads and discussions around the internet which have touched on this but it's usually with the intention of increasing performance or tuning non stock exhaust systems.

I certainly wouldn't complain about increased performance but ideally I just want to get the engine back running properly.

    Many thanks

    Pete

I don't think the o2 eliminators will do what you are looking for. Even with the eliminators installed the cat is still doing what it needs to do as far as the exhaust gasses are concerned. You might be able to tune it better for running with no cat using the power commander though.

Go to louis.eu and search for retrofit catalytic converters. There are some that can be simply inserted into the exhaust pipes.

You are better off without the Cat if you can get her running ok.

Not if you want to carry a passenger.
While in traffic or waiting at a stop, not only You are almost chocking but the other drivers or riders as well.

O2 eliminators may help. If it's running that rich the ecu is likely getting no signal at all. A PC5 is best but cost may be a factor.

How did we not all die then before catalytic converters came along?

Why not pick up a replacement set off ebay? They're fairly available and relatively inexpensive. I browsed the ebay UK site and found several serviceable options.

Lot of hot rods and antique cars out here in sunny California, when I ride behind one the fumes are real strong. LA had severe smog, people did die. We have catalytic converters for a reason. Not a joke.
