How many older guys ride VFR?

Me thinks not many "young people" ride VFR's because they are basically a dead bike in the USA at least. Those rolling around are slowly dying. Why would a young person take an interest in an obsolete bike other than new ones are cheap?

 

You have a point there, but starting driver s without a lot of money might want a sheep old vfr.

But on the other hand.....old fireblafes are sheep also. The same with old cbr600.

In Holland the VFR is stille a wanted bij because it is allround.

I don't have the impression the VFR800F is what could be called a "dead" bike ? Why otherwise would Honda have invested in making the 2016 model Euro4 compliant ? Rather note that they phased out the VFR1200, and not the VFR800 !

Taking into account the R&D investments coming with that Euro4 compliance, to me it means Honda is avoiding to make the VFR800 obsolete : it's Honda's ONLY sports-touring machine for the moment (on the European market) !

 

Look where you live and look where I live. 2015 was the last year the "Interceptor" was offered for sale in then U. S. Honda has no known plans for it here.

 

im 31 and im bummed the vfr isnt more popular here in the US. such a cool bike.

i have a 2014 i bought new earlier this year and kinda want another one. theres a lot of 5th and 6th gens that come up cheap on the used market.

 

Some call it the Multiple Bike Syndrome. I prefer to call it the Multiple Bike Passion.

At 65 , do you all think I may be afflicted. The VF and VFR representatives in the stable.

 

I've just turned 69. Thought I was the oldest. Nope , up there but not the senior by far.

 

I joined the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group 3 years ago. The word "VINTAGE" should apply to its members.

 

Hello, I am 59 years young! I ride my vfr since 2003.

 

Just turned 75 late last month, only time I feel really good is when I am challenging my self on the twisty back roads, rest of the time just putting up aging. Never ride the freeways out here, scary,

 

turning 54 on 112619 been riding my 91 since 95, got a 93 in 2013. You think I like the bike?

I'm 55 and just got my first viffer; a 2000 dark green beauty. I'm not planning on riding any different this year. I'm still looking forward to diving into corners, winding through the gears, being two hours past my butts limit and still nowhere near home, panoramic view, wind in my face, power of acceleration, power of deceleration and the biggest fix of all,.. the freedom that takes over as soon as my feet leave the ground,.. every time! Of course this can be done on any bike. It just so happens that the viffer is one of the few bikes that has seamlessly connected history to the present. The only difference any newer bike will do for me is cost me 10,000 dollars more. It won't make me any faster and I won't have any more fun nor will I look any better. So ya, I'm am older guy riding a VFR. Maybe, even a little, my viffer makes me feel younger.

Neither I or the VFR800 are dead just yet

 

Ha, Steve Eh is just a pup. I could almost be his dad... pushing 70 now. As I said, always lusted after one of these and really looking forward to riding it. The one I just bought needs a gas tank, so I'm chasing that down first. I have a buddy a couple of hours away who is ~65, he's owned his red one (1999) ever since I've known him about 10 years ago, member of a dwindling Ontario club. We likey gear driven cams.....

My buddy has 2, 5th gens and 2, 6th gens. He lives in Calgary but when he comes home to Halifax he has his 2001 waiting for him in his mom's garage. He is my age and he loves his VFRs. In fact he rode his 2001 from Chicago to Halifax . He loves the touring ability of the viffer and the sporty side too. I'm a little taller and longer than him. I'm almost 6 feet and he is 5'9". I'm sure I'll do fine. I'm certainly looking forward to finding out.
My bud assured me the way we ride here in NS I'd be much happier with the 5th gen. I wasn't complaining 'cause I'd say it's my favourite gen. I'm guessing my biggest adjustment will be power management since my last ride was a 2003FJR. A little more shifting and keeping the rpms up is all part of why I made the change. Oh and the weight difference. What a dream it was moving the viffer around my backyard! Suh---weet!

Well, doesn't everybody know the 5th Gens and earlier are the ones to have? More than one is just an addiction, but a good addiction! Steve, just sold my 2014 root beer FJR a couple of weeks ago... the FJR and I suspect other big displacement bikes are done in Europe, can't meet Euro5...... gotta get me a ride on the latest VFR one day, I'm just curious how it is now.

As Steve Eh's VFR riding buddy I have to add a correction...I have 4 - 5th Gens and 1 - 6th gen. I bought 2 - 5th gens in Oct...one for parts (but it has good bones so it may ride again!) and one that is in excellent condition.
I began riding when I was 12 and rode till I was 40 when life got too busy. At 50 I rode again and started buying "Rescue Bikes"...I'd buy bikes with good bones from people who shouldn't own bikes. I'd fix them up and ride them.
How many VFR's are too many...I'll let you know when I think I've reached that many ;-) LOL!
