Deluxe or no?

I've two 2015 VFR800s within 100 miles of me, both on Cycle Trader, the one that's not a D has less than 1000 miles on it and it is accessorized with a slip-on, lowered pegs, and a Puig screen.

The other is the D and comes bone stock with factory hardshell bags. About 3000 miles.

From the photos and answered questions, both seem mint, both are old-guy owned, both have always been garaged.

The deluxe version will probably cost me $700 or $800 more than the non-deluxe, but the non-D has two things I think I'll want, that being the taller screen and the lowered pegs.

But the real question is, how important is traction control and ABS brakes?

I'm a really old guy, rode for a long time up until two years ago when I sold a BMW sports tourer. I've met some guys here at our new FL home that ride, and now have a severe case of MAS (motorcycle aquisition syndrome).

I’m an old guy and I love my deluxe. Factory bags alone are worth more than $700!! I would never buy another bike without ABS, saved my butt several times. Traction control has kick in a couple of times , but not something as necessary as ABS. Get the deluxe and add the other items youself.

 

^^^This + the 2000 miles difference on the speedo is absolutely nothing on a bike whose engines are capable of reaching 200,000!

I have no idea how much the aftermarket screen, exhaust and rear sets would cost, but I bet they would be a whole lot less than just buying those OEM panniers.

I guess coming back from a tourer, you may get tempted to do some more touring with the VFR and those OEM panniers will keep your stuff dry and secure unlike throw-overs, and don't detract from the looks of the bike when fitted or not fitted.

ABS on my 6th Gen helped me avoid a head on - so well worth it every time.

Go with that syndrome..

Dlx model without a doubt.

Adjustable suspension front and back, abs, tc, heated grips. Worth way more than £800 even with out panniers.

 

The factory panniers are really nice and getting anything close to them, aftermarket, will cost you way more that a screen and some pegs.

As for ABS and traction control.. It's one of those things that doesn't seem like a big deal until you have it. Preferences aside, it objectively WILL make the bike better. Anyone claiming otherwise, is a fool.

For only $800,- it should be a no-brainer.

 

I think you're a fool too, thank you. I bought the standard by intent. I prefer to brake without ABS, not have a traction control system that is sketchy, a turn signal cancel that is sketchy, all on a bike that is low on power anyway. Some people have their preference. Only fools label a broad spectrum of people fools.

 

I'm not a rider keen on having the latest technology on a bike, prefer them with the least possible, but I also think it's a no-brainer to get the deluxe. Don't see where saying it's a no-brainer means you are calling people fools, but then again I'm just stupid, so what do I know.
