I was just given a 2002 vfr800 vtech. Needs some top end work but that’s no problem for me. Other then that it’s mint, already has the power commander 3 and has been gone through. Got it from the original owner. I don’t see any issues other then what has been mentioned. I just wanted to Join the group and see what people’s opinions on this bike was and what are the common fixes or changes that are done. I already looked up the pair valve, flapper mod and snorkel. Haven’t done them yet or even looked to see if they were done, just got it a few hours ago.

    Welcome to The World!

So, when you say “given”, did you mean that someone gave it to you without any money exchanged? If so, I’d say that’s a hell of a deal!

For your given situation, I.e. Power Commander 3, removing the PAIR valve setup should have been done to allow for a proper Dino tune but that being said, the snorkel mod essentially just makes the intake noise a bit louder but you’re welcome to give it a go if you like. As for other “mods” do a search on the forum for “The Drill”, you’ll see that the Achilles heal for these bikes is the Stator/RR. Replacing these with a new OEM Stator and MOSFET RR (See www.roadstercycle.com) you’ll be sure to have many trouble free miles ahead.

Yes it was gifted to me. A great friend of mine knew that I loved working on bikes. He bought it brand new but moved on to different bikes and it just sat around so he said just take it. Clean title and everything. I can’t wait to figure this beast out. I already have a 1986 Honda shadow 700, 2002 Honda vtx 1800 and now the 2002 vfr800. Thank you for the advice I will look into those.
