I'm going to repair my bike armed with a good R/R (sending Electrosport's back for a replacement), a new battery, and a wiring replacement by VFRness at www.wiremybike.com, as well as a LCD voltmeter so I can see these problems in advance from now on! I will solve the electrical problems or go broke trying.

Porsche Bob - thanks for the tip on wiremybike, I got a hold of him Monday, he whipped up a heavy duty harness for me that night, shipped it out Tuesday and it arrived half way across the continent on Thursday for the normal shipping rate of 7 dollars... good deal and a good guy to deal with.

Now I hope the weather clears because I don't want to fix the bike and do electrical repairs in the current rain.

Take lots of good close up photos, especially installation of the new wire harnesses and post them here.

I think lots of folks would like to see the new harnesses.

    Installed but no pics yet

Rescued the bike and installed a battery, my old R/R, and then when I got home, installed with VFRness wiring harness. One end runs to the positive bat. terminal, one piece runs to ground (Joshua recommends grounding to frame with R/R bolt), and a pair of 4 prong plugs, one male, one female that go between the normal R/R to harness juncture.

I did a voltage test after install at idle and at 6k, both of them read 14v plus or minus .03v! Didn't check the stats with my old setup for fear of blowing another battery, but if the battery was steaming like that, I don't need to know the exact voltage numbers!

Anyway, next install is a little digital voltage readout so that I never have to worry about electricals again (and for piece of mind I have a spare good R/R under my seat where the toolkit ought to be).

PS - the VFRness kit is slick. Large oversized guage wires and all connections are crimped and soldered! Wish I could find that kind of handmade quality more often. If you're in the market, this is the place to get it www.wiremybike.com
