i am working in getting a vfr750 rc36 engine running, I bought it bare on a stand for a project, I have bought a wiring loom, ignition module and other bits I need to get it running. I have bypassed the circuit for neutral and other safety switches and have the engine turning over but am not getting a spark. The pulse generator is connected, I get a constant feed to the coil connectors but one only has a dim light when touching the other (I only have a test lamp), this does not change when turning the engine over. I don’t have much experience with bike engines, can anyone think what I am missing?
Buy yourself a cheap multimeter! You should have a good solid battery voltage (12v) at the black/white wires for each coil, and an earth path for the Green/White wire from the ICM (i.e. stand is up). Any time you get less than the full battery voltage you probably have poor connections due to corrosion in the terminals of a connector or even a damaged wire.
