Hello everyone. I'm a new owner of an '98 VFR 800 RC46 - My first motorcycle. I have driven about 300km on it now and have a "problem".... Or... I don' t know if it's an issue or not. Maybe other RC46 also have the sound. ? When My bike is cold, there are no problems. Or... at least it's not so much, so I haven't noticed something.. 1. When the engine is cold, there is no "clonk" when shifting from neutral to 1'st and so on. When hot, there's a clonk shifting between the gears. Is this normal? 2. When driving in 4'th, 5'th and 6'th gear, there is a "Clicking" sound from The transmission. It follows the engine rpm, and when I release The gas the sound dissapears. Is this normal? Will it help to change the oil to at thicker viscosity? Other solutions ? Sorry My bad english - Hope you understand The meaning Mvh Jalo
I can answer question 1 , its normal for the gears to clonk when shifting thats fine but the clicking ? Mine doesn't do that. I put the recommend 10/40 semi in it , thats what Honda say. I personally wouldnt go for a thicker oil but it probably wouldnt hurt to try it .
Are you sure this clicking is emanating from the transmission, or perhaps elsewhere? If so, how have you isolated it to trans? Under what exact conditions does this clicking occur?
My 99 also has the “clonk” when shifting, but not every time. I have no clicking. I use 10/40 synthetic oil. I also would not recommend thicker beyond factory spec. Is it possible you are hearing valve noise? What grade gasoline is in it?
