I'm not charging. As if I needed anymore headache out of this bike. The regulars were just telling me I need a voltage meter.

Looks like previous owner modified the system. Didn't use any inline fuses. ditched the factory plug to the stater and crimp connected direct to the rectifier. Looks like previous owner used 07 - 12bcbr600rr rectifier.

Stick with the CBR rectifier or swap out to the FH020AA setup? The CBR rectifier tests good. But it's proving hard to find. For the future, might be best to switch. Thoughts?

Here's some photos. What do now?[IMG]

For the bike to battery charge you need a working alternator, working RR and a decent battery, plus the wires in between.

Looks like an FH-series RR which means a later MOSFET style rather than the earlier shunt type. If that checks out I'd be keeping it, they're meant to be longer lasting/more reliable.

See "The Drill" post for some suggestions:

We mentioned to add a voltmeter to watch what was going on since it sounded like you had confidence the charging system was already fine. Apparently.. that is not so...

Anyway - run the drill test and write down the numbers and let us know what that is....FIRST..
As a minimum, you could do the wire direct to the battery and eliminate the connectors to the stator...as below.
Then again, If it comes down to what will I recommend? Yes, switch...Do the upgrade to current art...

    - I thought you had a 5th gen --- is it a 6th? What year and miles?

I tested it out. The rectifier tested ok. The stater had just under the allowed ohm's, but failed the continuity test.
Just like the cooling system, why do it half way? I'm going to re-wire and upgrade the rectifier and new stater.
The wiring done by the previous owner is crimped w/ electrical tape and according to the diagram posted by Mellow Dude, not correct.

I'm going to re-wire using the diagram provided, Soldered connections, shrink wrap, fuses & heavy gauge wire.
The sticker on the battery shows it's less than a year old. I put the battery on a tender for a slow trickle charge.

I ordered the upgraded rectifier kit direct from DB Electrical.

I ordered this 3rd party stater from Amazon. It has good reviews around the internet and the correct ticket price.

I ordered this small volt meter that I can mount inside the cockpit.

    Here are some progress pics.

6th Gen('04) w/ around 60k. My first Honda. I really like it. I'm going to buy an Africa Twin, hopefully next summer.

Honda stators typically can go 30k to 50k miles.. although on the 6th gens, some have been eating it earlier... Yours is due if its original...
Hope all your new parts work out for you.. but typically upgrade R/Rs are ordered from www.roadstercycle.com and replacement stators are OEM...
A healthy bit more cash, but a known quality...
The history on this board hasnt been good with aftermarket charging replacement components.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm confident in the R/R. Hoping for the best with the stater.
