There isn't any flat straight road anywhere near where I live to find out. I have seen 114 but so what? Seriously, why does anyone really care about top end? Look at the numbers and the 5th, 6th, and 8th gen. are so close it doesn't matter.

The stock Honda speedometer is so inaccurate, It is worthless at high speeds. Even with a SpeedoHealer, the Honda speedometer is truely accurate at only one speed. Its pretty close tho, after the SpeedoHealer. Im not sure i trust a phone GPS.

I will say this tho... it would suck to be maxed out on your new VFR, and have a 17 year old VFR blow you into the weeds.

Top speed runs involve a very real legal risk ....at least here in NY you get bagged over the ton, its gonna get ugly real fast....handcuffs, bike impound, licence revocation...simply not worth bragging rights IMHO.

The very public NYC Range Rover vs sportbiker highway altercation of a couple of years ago has left us all branded as politically incorrect.....major scrutiny accompanied by zero tolerance from authorities.

Never done a top speed run. I don't see the point. I've seen 135 on the speedo on a long straight road once, but there were dips in the road and as I entered the dips the tach would run up toward redline. When I realized I was getting both wheels actually in the air with the bike packed full (pack, tailbag, tank bag) at 120mph actual, I slowed to 100 and left it there.

Of course, that was a 3rd gen, and the awesomeness of suspension on those is such that getting light and putting it back down didn't upset the chassis in the least.

I've seen 120+ on the track, but again that's not a true 120. That speedo was way the hell off, so it was 100+ -- I seriously doubt it was over 110 as you had to to get a hell of a good launch out of the last corner or have a lot more power to pull an actual 120 through turn 1 at Laguna Seca. Fast enough that you start playing games in your head to make yourself not roll off going over the crest, though. That bike would hold a corner until hard parts dragged, but the elevation changes on that track do your head in anyway.

With my one down up front 80 indicated = 70 actual. With my one down three up 60 indicated = 50 actual.

My best 1/4 on my 6th gen has been 10.82 at 127.4 so far.

You know, under 11 is pretty damned good for a middle weight sport tourer.

120 mph was the fastest I've gone on this bike. My Previous fastest was about 105 mph on my 2007 Suzuki boulevard m50.

Why do people think the speedo is off? I've driven past a half dozen police speed signs and my digital speedometer is usually an exact match.

I agree, we have a bunch of those radar signs, and mine is dead on. My old 6th gen was off by 10%

No need for me to try and verify top end!

Couple of weeks ago, I was doing 90 on one of the few flat straight stretches of 4 lane around here and out of boredom, I rolled on the throttle in 6th gear and, more quickly than I thought it would, I saw 131 then backed off and coasted to my exit. Given the little time it got there from 90, I would be willing to bet it would do the 144 my 6th gen. did and I don't know if that was really top end as I just slowed down due to coming back into civilization. With the Euro 4 muffler off, I don't find the 8th gen. to be crippled at all by the changes made to give it more low end torque. It's a more fun bike to me because almost all of the rpm's have more torque and I see no signs of less HP with the slip-on. My speedo is GPS accurate.

Bringing back this thread. So I had the chance to open her up the other day on one of our toll roads. A small group of us felt frisky and hopped on and had a little bit of fun. I was on the slowest bike in the group (BMW 1000RR and some other liter bikes) and they took off. I had an app running on my phone to check the speed on the cluster to the speed via GPS. It is on the money up to 85 and at 120 it is 1 mph off. Anyways I was playing catch up and towards the end of the toll road and as I was closing in I shut her down and upon deceleration I glanced at the cluster and saw 150. I think I was about 11.2k on the tach in 5th gear and she was still pulling. GPS app on phone showed 157 so I am confident she would hit 160 close to the limiter in 5th. Maybe some day i will shift into 6th and see what happens. I don't have a need for speed like once did so this is not an often thing. I prefer beating up on others from a dig.

I have only hit 112mph on mine. The fastest I have even gone with error obviously is 132 mph on my old 1995 Gpz1100. It started to get a wobble on the front end coming back from Reno, NV. and I found that the stress to my head from shaking back and forth from the wind was annoying as shit. I have not gone any faster due to that experience on the following 2 bikes that included the VFR.

Like Bigbadass said the legal consequences are huge. In Utah, riding or driving 100mph and above is a possible "reckless driving" Ticket, (auto impound and possible loss of license for 6 months. Plus a $1000 fine followed by sr-22 insurance for 3 yrs.) well, I should say unless your in the ward and the bishop is the judge and his cousin was the arresting officer. Well, again unless he or she was a motorcycle officer and than you are still F...ed:) But, to be honest I respect all law enforcement like most do when needed. But, I do resent them when they are going after us.;-)

I recall dropping the anchors coming into T1 at summit main seeing mid 150's on the speedo. Kind of surprising it gets up there because the acceleration is so mild. V4's are sneaky!

Nice one, i am familiar with SP and Shenny :)
Most I saw on my speedo was 138ish...
And that was in 6th gear.
(Edited: got it to 150 recently, was not trying, did feel like could easily do mid 150s)

The speedometer on the 8th gen is very accurate. It does not use the same speed sensor as the older models. I don't know where the speedometer reads the speed.

Very true statement. Makes it hard to adjust to things mentally when (definitely not much) looking at the speedo before a turn. I just go through the turn. It's making it through successfully that really counts.....to most people.

I hit 150 as well recently, it did feel like it had a bit more steam left. I was followed by a cbr600rr and he confirmed same speed readout.

I once got a ticket at 106 in a 65 in Texas in my M3 and had I not hired a $200 lawyer, all I would have had to do it pay the ticket. It was ~$200. I hired the lawyer and there were no points which was my goal. He was "doing" the local female justice of the peace. They all know each other and it's all about money. New York and other more liberal (and conservative) states get radical about a lot of things. A lot of "officers of the law" will completely let you go in the Southeast if you're just nice to them and don't lie about what you were doing. It's happened too many times with me, LOL....

Not as much as my 6th gen which gave me an indicated 155, but it gets there quicker.
