I'm sick of my elbows

Ok, so I love my VFR, but for one thing: it has a massive blind spot. No matter how I position them, all I can see in the mirrors is my own bloody elbows. I need mirrors with longer stems, maybe a couple of inches longer. Am I alone in this, or has anyone found a solution?

 

Push your mirrors forward a bit that will make some difference. you will never find a bike with fairing mounted mirrors where you will never see parts of your arms. If you do let us know. Move your head as well when looking

 

Cheers, Fink, but I have wide shoulders and it doesn't matter what contortions I go through short of climbing off one side to look in the opposite mirror, I can see absolutely bugger all.

 

You can get mirror extenders that move them a bit further out. But if you are not sure that is what you want, you can just throw a spacer between the mirror and the fairing and see if you like it.
Some people also like those small wide angle mirrors you can stick in the corner of the original mirror. Those should take care of blind spots pretty well

 

Mystery (possibly) solved! It seems the mirrors from a Kawasaki ER6-F (2012-2017) fit on the Honda mounts perfectly and are a good 2-2½" wider. I just need to swap them back before she gets home from work...

 

I use a small circular wide angle mirrors in the corners of each mirror to check my blind spots. I don’t ride the freeways very often, I stick to two lane back roads.

 

Be sure and post some pictures of how they look on the bike!

 

That’d be awesome, try it and post pics! I also got tired of seeing my arms, so I found some machined delrin spacer blocks on eBay and had them shipped from Canada. They weren’t cheap at $45 or so and aren’t super pretty with my rubber sleeve mirrors but it definitely helps.

I think it’d look a lot better with the 00-01 mirrors and spacers or the Kawasaki mirrors. If the Kawi mirrors are capable of folding and still maintaining their position, even better!

Throw away the base, but the arms mount straight to the Honda ones using the same bolts and washers

 

Okey dokey, so I went and stole my other half's mirrors while she was at work. First up, here are the standard 2000 issue Gen 5 Honda mirrors:

They're 900mm wide, or 2 13/64 cubic bushels to our American friends.


Mr Kawasaki's 2015 ER6-F's finest, however, come in at 1015mm (4½" wider)...

 

Believe me. I would much rather we go to the metric system and stop using the cubic bushel system.

 

Those mirrors look pretty good, nice discovery. I expect a used set is a cheap solution for those of us wide shouldered riders.

When I swapped to EMGO 2001 mirrors (to dump the saggy condom style mirrors on my '98) I found that they seem a little bit wider and I now have less issues seeing past my shoulders/arms. I didn't measure so it could just be that I have them set up better?... but the improvement (admittedly minor) was noticeable.

 

Sheesh! They're only $20 new on Ebay...

I found the mirrors on ebay, but the spacers are what really helped with seeing out beyond my elbows.

I can't find any er6 f mirrors 12-17 on ebay, plenty for the older model 09-12 though.
have you got an ebay link? I need to replace the condom mirrors on my 98 and was looking at mirror extenders too so these mirrors you found would kill 2 birds with one stone for me, good find.

 

Search for Ninja 650r mirrors, that’s what it was called in the states. Like these:
