A year ago I caught a rock in my radiator and added some alumiseal to stop the leak since I was on a long road trip. I now need to drain and refill the system to get the excess sealant out. Has anyone done a drain and refill on their 8th gen VFR cooling system and were there any problems along the way?

I did one a while back. There are two drain plugs, one on the left side of the engine -easy to get to. Then there's one that's on the front of the engine-that's a pain in the ass to get to. I drained just using the left one. Make sure you have a bucket to catch the coolant-it spurts out with a bit of force. When I did mine the coolant shot halfway across the garage.

When you had the drain plug out can you remember what the gasket on the bolt was?

    Fibre washer or O ring?

I’ve just got the coolant to do mine and can’t find the part # for the washers

I believe it was a copper washer.

I did a drain and refill yesterday on my 2014 VFR. I too used only the left side drain which is on the water pump. You would need to remove a bunch of stuff to get to the other drain bolt. I ran about 2 gallons of water through the system before I installed the new coolant. Make sure you drain the overflow reservoir as mine had a bunch of crap in it. The total time was about 2 hours. Yes there is a copper washer that was replaced as well.

How did you go about draining the overflow reservoir?

I unhooked the overflow hose at the radiator neck then poured water into the coolant bottle. I had to suck on the end of the hose before it would start draining. Once it started I kept the bottle full as it drained. That flushed all the crap out.

Just done mine, you were right about the fluid shooting out, I’d got a tray ready and it shot past that

I had all the lower and middle panels off and could only see the one drain plug

I hold a funnel in front of the drain hole and direct it into the pan.
