Hello VFR owners, my first post. I am doing some diagnosis on my 1995 VFR750 due to a constant fuel smell after riding it. I removed the fuel tank to see if there is leakage from the area of the petcock and found it to be dry. There appears to be some fuel on the rear left carburetor (I believe this is the #2 carb), but I am not sure if that is coming from somewhere besides leakage from the carb itself. One thing that occurred when taking the tank off was the tube that feeds into the fuel filter was dry rotted and split. This part is described as follows:
16956-MZ7-000 Tube, fuel strainer. It is no longer available as an OEM part. Is there an aftermarket source or somewhere to search.? I will look on David Silver Spares, but a quick view there did not seem to show any results. Any help in sourcing this part is greatly appreciated. I will attach a picture of the messed up part. Thank you, Brent.

Is that a hose? Or a tube with strainer on it? I looked in Partzilla...

Looks like you could just replace it with a generic piece of hose to me.

It is a hose; where would the best place to find something like that - plumbing supply, hardware store, auto parts store or just try a motorcycle parts counter? I have been on scavenger hunts for things like O-rings and been to a bunch of places. Thanks for any suggestions.

OK, so I took the hose off and looked at it and determined the inside diameter of each end was slightly different. I went to Advance Auto Parts with less hope because of this. They had a hose, but I could tell it likely would not work. I decided to go to the local multi-brand dealer and check with their parts department. Of course the part was not available, but the parts guy saw that one dealer in South Carolina had one listed in their inventory. I got the number and called them while I was still at the dealer. Their parts guy put me on hold, came back and said he could not find it and then at the last second found it! Lucky day. Thanks for the suggestions here; I look forward to getting involved with the forums. Brent.

Did that new hose also have different diameter on the ends, or had the stock part just hardened to it's stretched form?

The new part looked to have the same characteristics as the one that was replaced. One thing could be the case as the outside thickness one each end appeared to be different (it had to be installed one way only) and that could have created an illusion that the diameters were different. I never measured it to check.
