That is great that you had the presence of mind to ditch the bike when you knew you were going to hit the cars. It could have been worse! I prescribe several beers, a strong napping regiment, and video games to rehab that wrist!
    Good luck with the bike!

I would find no fault with that. If your cigars are leaving a funky aftertaste, you need to buy better cigars. When I smoke a new brand, the way I decide if I will purchase that ciagar again is if it does or doesn't leave a funky aftertaste. A true premium quality, hand made cigar will never leave an nasty aftertaste, especially if it's been aged correctly. As of today, I have over 150 cigars lovingly enclosed in my two humidors.

Sorry to hear about your crash. Having to have surgery sucks, too. I wish a speedy recovery. If I drank, I'd drink a few for ya, so diet soda will have to do for now. Heal fast and heal well.

yep. the premiums are, well premium. I'm good for like a quarter of a cigar, but after that I'm just wasting the fine tobacco. :frown:

I'll substitute some Glenmorangie, neat. The ice just beats up the Scotch.

Lets all thanks to porn I can type one handed. First off thanks for the replys. I did shatter my wrist into many pieces so I went in for surgery yesterday and some plates and pins installed. The pain last night was horrible morphine and vicodin did nothing I spent most of the night awake All I could do not to cry or scream. I am out of work for now but my boss said stay at home and I will still get salary. I only have one of the bike a friend took at the place where they towed. The person I hit backed up my story to the cop she even left skid marks on the pavement stopping in time. I was lucky to get surgery yesterday my dads boss who donates millions to the hospital called the chief of medicine and said I WAS getting surgery yesterday. Here are pics my pants and boots were toast.

Hope your back on two wheels soon. The damage to the bike does not appear to be all that severe but I'm only looking at a photo on a computer. Hopefully you can keep that classic on the road.

It also appears that your gear did it's job in a fine manner. In order to try to find the silver lining in this dark cloud, write a letter to each brand of gear. Include photos with the letter. Thank them for designing quality safety equipment, etc. Make sure you let them know that you will purchase more of their gear to replace the destroyed stuff. A friend of mine did this & got himself a free Joe Rocket ball cap & t shirt for his efforts. It's not much but it can't hurt.

To all the squid idiots that might be reading this. Look at that helmet. Now, think of what a person's face would look like if they weren't wearing it.

Thank god for that helmet!! Your wrist would be the least of your concerns if you had been wearing one of those stupid "Skid Lids" or not wearing a hat at all.

true that. it happens so fast, then you look back and find all those places where the gear saved your skin. my rash from my get off up north just flaked off yesterday. my face-shield looks similar to yours and my jacket is pretty similar also. imagining the same sliding without the gear is a painful prospect.

    +1 on that.

I was in Ct. visiting my parents last week. Most riders not wearing helmets or even jackets.

    Good luck on speedy recovery.

    Midas,
When you feel up to it, please share with the forum what happened. Many of us like to believe we can avoid most accidents out on the road...in denial in other words.;-) I am an old guy who is a bit careful in my old age in spite of riding too fast on occasion. A couple of things I always do is downshift and slow through intersections and up over blind hills. The reason through intersections is simple of course. It gives cagers more time to see you and judge your speed and up over hills from running into a brick wall...precisely what happened to you. You crested the hill and I presume you had no where to go.
Please share with us what happened and if you learned anything that you could pass along to your fellow riders that may prevent the same thing from occurring to any one of us. Or perhaps you were just screwed...what happened to Rob with someone turning left in front of him. Most of us have been down....some multiple times and have lived to ride another day and I hope that day occurs for you sooner then later in the very near future.
    My Best,
    George

Shit, it must be the season for get offs. My scabs just peeled last week after a lowside three weeks ago. Right knee and forearm took a hit and I broke my RH pinky which is still swollen and generally unhappy. First dump in twentythree years, or should I say first dump since the last dump which was in 83 on a brand new VF750 magna.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident.

Regarding the pain, it CAN be controlled. The problem is that many doctors fail to prescribe sufficient pain medication to control the pain. A dosage that is too low may have no effect at all and the only advantage to giving it is that the hospital gets to charge for it. For major pain, a high dose of strong pain medication, such as morphine or something similar, is required, combined with a medication to prevent the nausa which the pain medication would otherwise cause.

About 12 years ago, when I was living in Fiji, I had kidney stones. The pain was so great that it left me virtually helpless; it is generally recognized to be one of the most painful medical conditions. I was driven to a doctor's office but the injection given by the doctor had absolutely NO effect. Later, when I was taken to the hospital, I was given a very powerful injection which totally eliminated the pain, but it also made it difficult to stay awake, which was OK considering the alternative.

If you do some research into pain on the Internet, you will find that many doctors and hospitals do not take pain seriously enough and often fail to provide adequate pain medication. There really is no excuse for it; there is no need to tollerate major pain. Moreover, it has been found that providing adequate pain medication actually accelerates healing.

I'm glad to hear you are fine and clearly your equipment did the job it was supposed to. I also cannot understand why poeple want to ride without helmets. I ride Mountain Bikes as well as my VFR and I've gone down once on my old V45 Magna and it wasn't pretty. Similar deal to your crash. Broke my wrist as well and was in a cast for 12 weeks. My helmet also looked a bit like yours after that crash, although not as bad and my leather jacket was also pretty scrapped up, but it held up. I brought up the mountain biking due to the fact that I always wear a helmet there as well and I've gone down many more times than on a cycle. MTB Helmets have saved my head many times. So many that I wear the thing even when simply going on a easy ride. You never know what can happen.

I"m glad you are alive, walking and capable of riding again. Your bike doesn't look that bad, so I"m sure it can be fixed and you'll be out riding again. I'm sure you'll never crest hills the same again. I know I don't.
