Anyone have recommendations for front brake rotors? I seem to have a hard time finding front rotors for my 04 VFR. Revzilla didn't have any rotors that fit my bike.

Additionally, do I need to replace just the floating portion or the entire floater and piece that the floater is connected to?

    Any advice is appreciated.

You will not find rotors in Revzilla, it’s Partzilla you want.
You can’t dismantle the floating part of the rotors from the carriers, you can only get the whole thing.

    Doesn't Honda have them?

I found a set of EBC Vee Rotors (VR1014) for a steal of a price on eBay but it was a one off sale. That being said, prior to my find, I looked all over the web for them, even Amazon. Although I could find one in some off colors (green or blue) for $99-$110, I could not find two with colors that matched colors at those prices. The least expensive I could find for a matching color set was $231 each, I believe that was on Amazon but there were some close to that on eBay as well.

On full floating rotors, the carrier, the part that mounts to the wheel is a separate component that is held to the rotor via “bobbins” but I have never seen these sold as two separate items. I have seen some videos on YouTube where the person on the video showed them rebuilding a Brembo brake rotor assembly with new bobbins they were able to purchase separately but they were still using the original carrier and rotor. I guess if the bobbins were obtainable from Brembo, I imagine that the rotor and carrier might be as well. Although this would be fine if replacing a component of an existing setup, I don’t see buying one piecemeal would be advantageous or cost effective.

If you’re just looking for OEM replacements, Partzilla or even Revzilla now, as they just started selling OEM parts, would be the way to go find new OEM. However, you might find the OEM cost as much as aftermarket, if not more. If you think you’ll want to get aftermarket, I suggest just searching the web for them. Before I found the deal on mine, I just plugged in the part number in Google and searched for them and I got a ton of results, I just had to whittle down the list until I found the best deal. I’m sure you’re savvy enough to know that not all brake components are equal and if something looks too good to be true, then caveat emptor. Double check the ad and the seller, always be on the look out for counterfeit products and/or contradictory info, like good quality pictures with a description that doesn’t match. I.e. using stock photos of the item not ones taken of the ones being sold.

Oz, actually Revzilla just started selling OEM parts now, so you can now buy Honda parts from them.

    I stand corrected.
There are plenty out there, but as Ootv stated, quality varies.
Make sure you ask about disk thickness, as some after market are 1mm thicker and are a tight fit if you're installing new pads (which you should do with new disks).

I have found plenty of examples now with the advice. However they are so expensive! Seems like the cheapest I can find are about $170 PER rotor. for some reason that just seems so expensive to me.

Well, doing a check on the OEM, they're listed at $258/each! Just a note, not sure why you're looking for new rotors, better braking, worn/scuffed disc, better looks, etc. but I have found used OEM rotors for fairly cheap on eBay usually in the $100-$150 range. Most I have found are from salvage companies parting out wrecked bikes and usually they provide good details on the stuff they sell. Private sellers are usually less descriptive and not thorough on providing detailed info like thickness and or run out, etc.

Yeah I looked at the OEM prices and was astounded! I'm looking for new ones because my front brakes are pulsing pretty aggressively upon any kind of braking. It's gotten progressively worse over the last year. I went through the canyons a couple weeks ago and I think because of the heavy use/heat it got worse. Im guessing that the rotors are warped and need to be replaced. They are currently at the 4.3mm thickness that is stamped onto them. One is actually 4.2mm. I bled the brakes recently so believe its the rotors.

Depending on how much run out there is, you could possibly get them straightened. There's a shop in Anaheim called Dr. Johns and they can straighten wheels, frames, and even discs. https://www.drjohnsmfs.com/services.html
