Just seeing if anyone has done this. I'd love to hear someone's experience.. thinking about going 2 up on rear sprocket... does the gear indicator just not work anymore and read --

Reading what it says I would say no, it will not work.

Why you want to change gearing?

Sounds like the position of the shifter. It will work if you go one less on the countershaft.

I have noticed that if I leave my foot rest on the gear shifter for a while, the indicator will stop working. I am sure it has something to do with self diagnosis. Sometimes it comes back, others require shutting of engine momentarily.

The stock gearing is designed for fuel economy....I'd rather use the horsepower for better acceleration.

Definitely. It also tightens up the gearbox and makes it more friendly when you're hustling.

Twisting your wrist faster has same result, or even fitting a quick action throttle.

At 6.5 k there will only be about 3 mph difference.

I have a couple of questions for you, Fink. Have you ever done it?, and if so, what was your personal experience?

Hmmm, I question that it would only be 3 mph. I changed my rear sprocket to a 45 tooth from
the stock 43 tooth, and it made a huge difference with the speedometer. It went from about 7%
    fast to almost 15% fast.

Before when I was showing 75 mph, I was doing about 72 mph, but now 75 mph is about 65 mph.
That's why I put the bicycle computer on mine.

With a higher gear ratio you would reach vtec faster aka the powerband....there is no reason for the vfr to be geared the way it is...the vfr is a sport touring bike. It's meant to be highway and twisty roads friendly. It doesnt need to go 140 mph to accomplish this.

I say just give it a go, Honda88. You might figure out that it doesn't work initially, then again, you might find it's a non issue. You could do a little experiment, hell, think of it as cheap education. When there is a will, there is always a way. If I had an 8g, I probably would have already done it, but I don't, sorry I can't give you a definitive answer. I totally agree with the gearing change, it's like a different bike. Motorcycling wouldn't be where it is today if people didn't push the envelope. No guts, No glory. Post up what you decide. Personally, I never could understand the need for such a device.

Have done it loads times, love doing it. Mmmmmm

Yeah mucked around with gearing on me Cbr6 and fitted a qat to boot. Never felt the need on the road only the track.

Mate had +2 on vtec not much difference between them on a roll on.

    What were your experiences?

Based upon your response, would it be safe to say that you don't have any personal experience and you have not changed the gearing on a VFR?

Can't, they want me to turn off my adblocker. Screw 'em.

There is one at CRF's Only that's a little less cumbersome. No restrictions on Adblocker.

    https://www.crfsonly.com/howto/gearing/motorcycle-gearing-calculator.php

Even though it says it's for CRF's, it will work for any machine if you input your data. I only use it for percent of change between current and hypothetical

No I haven't on a vfr , but my mate went +2 on his 6th gen as you call them, compared to mine not much difference at all 50 odd yards over 1/2 mile, swapped over and much the same.

Cbr track day -1 front +2 rear made a big difference even more so with a QAT. Speedo would have been way out. lost out on top speed but would never get anywhere near that on a short track.

    Stock gearing on vfr 4th gear 5k revs 54.8mph, 6k 65.8mph , 7k 76.7mph, 9k 98.6mph

    +2 on rear 4th gear 5k 52.4 mph, 6k 62.8mph , 7k 73.3mph, 9k 94.3mph

There will be a drop off on power as your decreasing the final ratios.
