    From Lint.....

"Since February I've had two major events in my life, a broken heart valve, then a month later, a herniated lung. Two major operations, especially the heart surgery. I'm not looking for sympathy, nor am I trying to set myself on a pedestal. But, I've gotten a whole new perspective on life, when staring down the barrel of it possibly ending. I've got to say this. You need to hear it and really really duplicate it in your life.

Life is so fragile. Fleeting. Please, let go of whatever you're holding onto. Don't just forgive, FORGET. You don't know what it's like to hold onto life by a thread, to get wheeled into an ambulance chocking on your own blood. Or into an operating room knowing your heart will be stopped and you'll only live because of a machine. Maybe you do.

But, you gotta understand, we are here for a minute. Those grudges, gripes, anger and strife are poison. You've got such a brief time. Let Go. Stop holding on to the past. Your life can change in an instant. My lung went from normal to filling with blood in TEN MINUTES!!!

Live while life is still in you. THERE IS NOT A FUCKING THING THAT CAN TAKE THE PLACE OF YOUR LIFE, NOR YOUR LOVED ONES. LET THAT SHIT GO!! BE FREE, BE LOVE, BE LOVED. THERE IS NO TIME. IF YOU DON'T START NOW, IT MAY BE TOO LATE. BELIEVE ME, I KNOW.

When you realize all the things you want to say, knowing you may not get a chance to, the stupid shit we carry around with us MEANS NOTHING!! Anger, resentment, PRIDE, the need to be right. It's all BULLSHIT!! Life is now, that's it, there is no tomorrow promised to anyone. Ten minutes from now you could be dying.

    Please, understand this.

When was the last time you noticed a sunrise, knowing you're actually alive to see it?"

    Peace Nelix....JB

Last sunrise was this morning. Stunning, only spoiled by the fact I was at work.

    Well phrased Lint.

    Peace JB.

This is good positive stuff guys. Live and let live. I love VFR's. But I also love the power of the liter bikes.

Peace & love to all of you.

This is what I traded the VFR in for.

    Yep. Good positive stuff.

Power is a nice thing to have now that you mentioned it. I used to have K1200R and it was an animal. When it hit 8000rpm, it launched even more. Nice twisty bike but no way the power was needed or useable in the Western NC. My VFR and I are happy in the Smoky's.

I have rode all kinds of bikes in the mountains including 2 strokes. Way back when the "Dragon" was Deals Gap it was an awesome road for our little Yamaha RD 350's. A pack of them all with nice sets of chambers were music to the ears. And the smell......... That very tight twisty road was perfect for nimble little cafe racers. There are many much better roads but that was always a favorite on the little smokers. When they finally finished the Cherohala Skyway most of us were on bigger 4 strokes like KZ 1000's with Kerker headers. I have rode the VFR up there a bunch of times and think its a great all arounder. Did my CBR 1000 for a week up there before I turned it into a track bike. Tons of fun but enough power to get you into trouble quickly.

I used to have a Kawasaki ZX11D, later replaced with a Hayabusa, then later on I had a Buell 1125R. The 'Busa was the fastest but it was such a long time ago I can't recall how it felt to ride and how mind blowingly quick it was. It's not just the torque, it was the top end too. People talk about midrange power on different bikes but it's meaningless without context. The VFR800 has plenty of midrange. Compare to.....xxxxx.....then you get on a liter+ bike and you realize how much more you can have and what it allows you to do. It's not better than a VFR, it's just MORE.

I honestly was happy with my VFR800 and CBR600rr, and was convinced I needed nothing more. 100 rwhp and 50-ish lbs. foot of torque is good. Then I took these more powerful sport bikes for test rides! It was like a religious experience! I had forgotten how good excess & effortless power was to have! Someone I know who owns a KTM 1290 Super Duke told me, it's like feeling omnipotent with the hand of god under your right wrist.

30 in the corners and 175 on the straights, it makes up for a lot of shortcomings.

Only issue with 200hp bikes is the skill of the riders just isn't there especially on the public roads.

I should have just stayed out of it, lost my mind there for a bit. It's kind of an oil thread subject, that isn't about oil.

    Love it!

How are the ergonomics compared to the VFR? I wanted the Ninja 1000 as well, but insurance made the decision for me.

Ergonomics, imho, are far better. I put the biggest motopumps bar risers on my VFR, the Zed is perfect for me as is (5'5, 65kg)
Wider bars and a slight decrease in weight over the VFR, but it feels a good bit lighter.
    3 way adjustable screen.
I've done a couple of 200-250 mile runs on the Zed with no issues regarding comfort and my seat has been sculpted/lowered a bit.

Had a ZX10R before the VFR and cannot honestly say this is the best bike I've ever had, ever prefer it to the ZX10R. Perfect compromise for me, still a sports tourer so comfy, but 140hp to go with it.

The VFR800 has a sportier riding position versus the Ninja 1000. The Ninja's riding position is exactly like any naked sportbike. That's because the Ninja 1000 is basically a Z1000 naked with a full fairing. And so it feels like a naked sport bike to ride. The VFR800 feels more like a sporty, sport tourer, in comparison.

And yeah the Ninja 1000 insurance is significantly higher than the VFR800. It's that damn name and that number at the end that kills it. It's too close to the "ZX1000" insurance code name for the ZX10R (aka "Widowmaker").

The Zed is, imo, a far more "flickable" bike than the 8th gen VFR was.
Called the Z1000SX in the UK, no Ninja monicker.

My insurance on a brand new 8th gen VFR was more than I payed for my 7 year old ZX10R, both fully comp.

When my VFR was stolen (since recovered) I bought a 2016 BMW R1200RS. In my opinion, it is a superior sport-touring motorcycle, albeit very expensive.

I still have my recovered VFR though, because it’s a great motorcycle too. I was going to sell it, but I wouldn’t have gotten much money for it. What’s the point? Anyway, its a bit more demanding to ride hard because of the 54 ft.lbs. torque vs. 95 ft. lbs. of the BMW and the fuel range is only 2/3s of the BMW’s, BUT it’s a lot of fun if I keep the revs where they should be!

So lets be clear... there will always be strong alternatives to a VFR, and many much stronger/better at the moment. However, I am still waiting anxiously with that "the great pumpkin is coming charlie brown, you just need to believe" face that Honda will do another high performance V4 for us. I literally have a checkbook and pen waiting.
Why? Because nothing ever captured my emotions like that V4 sound, and I am willing to pay for it.

To be fair, I currently own my immaculate gen 2 VFR, but also 6 other bikes registered and on the road often. A single (KLR), a V twin (Indian), a triple ( new Yamaha Tracer GT Weeee!) two parellel twins (Triumph BSA vintage) and an inline 4 (Mint Suz GS1000e). Love each of them, but they in no way stir me up like the VFR does.

Just build a new and better one, dammit!

I've had an R1200RT and it was a great bike. Loads of torque and handled as good as a VFR in spite of being bigger. BMW builds bullet proof motorcycles.
