Still haven't resolved my luggage/storage problems on my Interceptor. Wanted to know, for the sixth gen, what sits closest to the bike, OEM, GIVI or Shad? Meaning, is there a large gap between the mounting hardware and the plastics.

What I want to avoid is a very wide bike. Hard to find photos of luggage taken from the back, they all look good from the side.

Also, I like the smaller cases, again because of width, they use a different mounting frame that is flat. Anyone have photos of either the GIVI or Kappa 23 liter bags mounted?

My OEM is not much wider than my handlebars on my 6th generation.

Definitely. I wonder if aftermarket sit as close to the body of the bike, looks real good.

By the way, great photos, looks like a great place to ride.

For what I've seen, aftermarket ones don't sit as close. Have seen some that go as high as the seat and to the best of my knowledge, are not the same capacity.
OEM fit two helmets in the trunk and one in each one of the saddle bags.

About the photos: The side view was taken on UT highway 12 between Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon, the other ones were taken in Zion. Thanks.

Not sure the best place to mention this to get the most eyes to help with the problem. I lucked out getting a set of OEM luggage with mounting brackets however the previous owner has a few pieces missing. He did not use the grab rails so he did not supply the spacers, I mean he did not have them and I didn't know until the luggage arrived that I needed them. Does anyone know if they are available?

    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they are available and would be relatively cheap, but they can be fabricated too. All you would need are the measurements.

I don’t think I described the missing pieces clearly. They are formed rubberized pieces that fit between the base of the grab bar and the top of the luggage mount. They form a seal over the rear cowl cavity. I called them spacers because that’s what the parts list called them.

Those parts although nice to have are not truly needed to mount the bags.

Yes, you are correct. The previous owner of the bags mounted them without the grab rails. However this leaves the opening/cavity where the grab rails were exposed. Plus, I really would prefer to have my grab rails on the bike.

This is a photo of the part.

Also, didn't even realize you posted as your text was black on a black background.

And it's done... I hope. As long as nothing falls off (crosses fingers). I can't believe the engineers/designers who created the motorcycle and the OEM luggage rack were ever in the same room or even talked to one another. Hopefully my journey is at an end with the luggage but probably not as I will show you a few issues. As I had purchased a used kit I found out I was missing some pieces as this thread details. I received my printed parts yesterday and added the luggage today.

Here is one of the printed pieces. It's an elastomer plastic so it has some give and flex but not the same as the more rubbery OEM pieces.

It seats pretty well and once you turn the bolts it flexes into place. Time will tell if weather and stress will damage the printed piece.

Unfortunately I had other missing pieces, the bolts that hold the grab rails were not included and the stock bolts are too short. I had to go to the hardware store and pick these up, since they are hex-head bolts and not allen head the black caps do not snap into place. If I can find some proper allen bolts I will replace.

Here she is in all her glory. Thankfully Honda used the same white paint on the 2006 (the used bags I bought) as the 2007. I may add some vinyl pinstripes or stripes later. Some of the other missing pieces in the used kit were some spacers that sit between the license plate holder and rear luggage bracket. Because of this I could not get the license plate mount and light to lock down properly. It's fastened tightly but because of some play it has some wiggle to it.

A very big thanks to TriumphTraitor at VFRDiscussion, my luggage would still be sitting in my house in boxes had he not come through with his contacts and sample pieces for scanning. I have the 3D file if anyone ever needs these pieces. You will have to find your own printer, I used Proto3000 in Ontario. I should add the crew at Proto3000 were amazingly helpful. I don't know how many small one-off projects they get but they treated me like a big-time customer.
