    Hey guys,

I recently purchased a '93 VFR that an owner was letting go for very cheap because it had developed electrical issues... he had replaced the R/R and when he went to start it he heard a pop and everything went dead. He was never able to figure out the issue.

Then he sold it to me, and upon checking I found that the main 30a fuse had blown (not just blown but melted). So I replaced it .... and it blew again... so I read somewhere that that could happen if the R/R was hooked up wrong so I unplugged the R/R and replaced the fuse and THIS ONE BLEW! So, in my frustration I disconnected all the wires from the 4P connector next to the main fuse and battery. Suddenly it occured to me that this has to be a short coming from somewhere between the battery and the next fuse in-line as the next fuse wasnt blown.

Long story short, when he had spliced into the main harness to hook up the R/R (not sure why he did this) he used subpar wiring and got a short which caused the fuse to blow. Took care of this and she started right up. And I LOVE that V-4 sound, and she ride's great...

    So 2 quick questions...

1.) Is there anything I should watch out for if I want to commute and tour on this bike (knowing its prior electrical issue)?
2.) Does anyone have a stock (or quieter) exhaust (I work nights and need to not disturb my neighbors), and possibly a stock windscreen (the prior owner painted his) ... I can trade a Two Brothers slip-on, for whatever exhaust you may have...

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul

Paul, I have a stock exhaust that I would be willing to trade that is in excellent condition. Let me know if you would like me to ship it to you, and you could ship me back the two brothers slip on.

    Thanks

    Mike

Now that I think about it, he said he had done a custom exhaust job, and I'm not sure if the stock would fit back on or if this is definitely a slip-on from a 90-93 VFR ... I have some pictures if anyone can confirm ...

    Exhaust.

That is a left exit system. I will trade you a complete stock system from my '93 for it plus $100.00 cash.

Haha, I really dont WANT to tone it down, but the apartment complex I live in is kind of a private community and I dont want to get fined or anything for disturbing people at 2 am

I also like the look of that left exit system... I'd hate to go back to stock and never be able to find another good slipon when I finally get off the night shift... so if there're any other options, I'd love to hear them.

Get a quieter muffler and replace the one on it with it or try repacking your muffler. As a last result pretty much anyone on here with a stock 3rd gen. will trade you exhausts systems,me included:biggrin:

Any clues on where to get a muffler that will fit? I was hoping maybe the guy fit a muffler from a later gen, because he did a custom job, but he probably just made it to fit around teh TBR slip-on...

I'd take someone up on the trade, but between shipping and the exhaust system on this bike not being in the best shape cosmetically, I dont think it's ideal. (I'd hate to ship it and have someone unhappy and have to ship it back)

Finally took her out... there were a couple other small issues that needed addressing: he put new grips on, but they were a little too big, and the bar end was making the throttle stick. Needs new tires, as these are pretty squared off (although nothing a few twisty runs won't fix). And could probably benefit from an oil change... All that said... I LOVE the power delivery, and once your moving the weight is barely noticable. And very comfortable (one of the deciding factors in buying the bike...)

She sounds great! Definitely a little loud, but I'm thinking a muffler repack could tone that down enough to sneak in and out at night. Worse comes to worst, I can custom fit one of my other bike's stock exhaust cans (I'm very creative :p)
