Was out for a 250 mile ride, and by the end of it my butt was quite sore. Any recommendations for an aftermarket seat option for my 2014 VFR800? I would like to run the bike over longer distances, but I'm not confident my butt will take it.

Maybe Sargent, Corbin, Saddlemen (in no particular order)?

I put on an airhawk for longer trips, it's so far the best I've found for the gen8.

Maybe try and get a bit more saddle time to toughen up your butt a bit. :)

I agree very much with Fink. 250 miles really is not that long of a ride but who am I to make such a comment for someone else. We are all different in many ways. I can't speak for an 8th gen but I have ridden well over 1000 miles from Chilliwack to Atascadero, twice I think, with the stock seat on mine. Yes the toosh was a little sore but those were easily over 300 mile days,

After many recommendations from here, I purchased a used Sergent seat from someone in the US east but can't remember who. It was a little better but I can't say one hell of a lot. But I used to do a lot of bicycle riding and had one of those really thin seats that look like would split you wide open. So maybe my derriere is or was a little more hardened from that.

When the Sergent seat was starting to be in need of re-upholstery, I took it to Rich's Custom Upholstery in Richland Washington, and spent a chunk of change for a custom seat which is not only carved to fit your butt, but also has a gel insert. That is really comfortable and does make a difference. But not a cheap option. That run me well over $800.00 USD but also included some embroidery I created for him to add. If I ever find myself with a new or newer 8th gen to my liking, the first thing I will do is head back there and get that seat custom fit as well.

I really do think that the first thing is to get into the saddle and run several longer rides. You will get used to it to some degree and may not need a new seat at all. Unless you plan on doing a lot of massive tours.

I will take up the suggestion of fink, and 34468 Randy. It has been about 2 months since I last rode the bike. If I need to upgrade the seat, it appears Sargent will be the way to go. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Call Sargent and ask for a seat like I got three years ago. Reference my sales order #84670 and Sale #65558 of 5/26/16. They made it just a little flatter and a little wider than stock. I didn't like the Airhawk feel - too squishy-squirmy for sport riding, IMO. My Sargent seat made it coast-to-coast in 2016 and I'm going to set out next month to do it again.

In fact here's a photo from arrival in Pensacola. The seat is wider, but not so much as too get in the way of hanging off in the twisties. (The black plastic on the rear cowl is just there to protect the cowl from my soft saddlebags - not part of the seat.)
