took the bike in for it's MOT this morning and of course it was pissing down, never ridden it in the rain before but all my gear got a good test of it's waterproof qualities and decided that I will have to order a 'Pinlock' for my helmet, the bike passed (yippee) and got home and hosed the bike down to clean all the crap off it and put it in the garage to dry off whilst I made a coffee but thought I it would be better on the main stand, went to lift it up and my foot slipped off the main stand lever and the bike tipped away from me quick as you like, luckily it hit the garage wall and stopped at about 45 degree angle, the mirror was pushed back and touched the screen but no damage and the bar end was protected by the R&G bar end protectors, no damage at all, it was bloody heavy to pull back towards me but 'fuck me drunk' that was a close call

You now know first hand why so many of these bikes end up taking an unplanned nap.

PS Don't tell Randy or you will appear on his butterfingers list - although resting a VFR against a wall at 45 degrees angle might not be enough to get you into his very exclusive club

I had a near disaster the other too. Went to move my bike a few feet in the driveway, while pushing it the side stand flipped up. Problem was I was wearing Krocs which have thick blunt toe, I couldn’t get my foot on top of the tab to pull it back dow. Kept stabbing at it till it finally flipped down.

I can vouch for the heaviness. Mine went all the way down a few months back and I had to use some ratcheting tie downs to raise it back up. I'm just not capable of downing a squat with 500#.

And wear actual shoes or boots.
Of course, it can still happen.
People will find a way. :Noidea:

I only moved the bike a couple of feet, if I had put the stand up intentionally, I still would have hard time with Krocs. I always were my boots when I ride, don’t wear shoes or sneakers with laces that get caught on gear shift. Learned that the hard way too.

I can believe it. Same thing happened to me except the mirror glass broke. I went down to Honda to get a replacement. Over £100 so I explained I just wanted the glass not the whole thing. Apparently just the glass is not an option. So for about £2 I bought acrylic mirror and made a paper template. I cut out the mirror shape and stuck it on the cracked glass. A week later it went for it's MOT and passed.

I have people who watch for this kind of thing. But I think somewhere in that thread I said if it hits the ground, it is a drop. Scottbot I safe here. Also. I don't list them unless someone posts up on that thread. A person has to be able to find humour in his/her misfortune and post their drop there first. But you never know. The skies may turn purple and I may change my mind.

Oh and Scottbot. "Fuck me drunk". I have never heard that one. Can I use it? Never mind. I am going to regardless. That one is funny.

'fuck me drunk' was a saying when I lived in Australia, one of my favourites was 'pigs arse' as in 'I disagree with you', they have some shit hot sayings there and I reckon some of our Australian members (so to speak) may be able to contribute to some more.

Hello Dick D - and welcome to the MadHouse :Welcome:.

You nearly snuck on board. Anyway thanks for that helpful input.

When you get a chance please swing by the Introductions section and say Hi to the rest of the folks on here and maybe tell us a bit about you and your bike(s).

Certainly OEM mirrors are stupidly pricey, hence so many VFR owners opt to remove the entire damaged mirror and bolt on a brand new EMGO mirror which comes complete ready to install with mirror, stalk and mount. They are reasonably good quality and available on the Bay for far less than half of Honda parts. Being pretty much a clone or the original manufacturer item, even close up it is difficult to tell which is Honda and which is not.

PS I see from Randy's latest post (and careful reading of Post #717 in his thread) that it looks like you are safe from instant membership of the butterfingers club

    Take care ATGATT
