    Hi,

I'm new here so let's say something about myself.
I'm 34 years old and from the Netherlands and i have a red VFR800 FI from 1998 whichd has driven 38000 km.
My girlfriend also drives a VFR800 FI but this one is from 1999 and the color is yellow and has driven 26000 km. Both have a BOS high mounted carbon exhaust.
I'm getting the pictures online soon!
But now get to the problem:
There is a strange sound that is not so there when the engine is running idle,
but when increasing the rpm's then it's getting louder.
I recorded the sound from the two bikes.

    Bike 1 (red):

    Bike 2 (yellow):

Hope you guys can help me with this one!

I don't have the best speaker system on my computer, but just listening to it I think it sounds like the gear drive for the cams, which would be completely normal. Not being able to listen to it in person though, I can't say for certain.

I agree with Brian. Sounds just like mine. You get used to it. It bothered me for a little while but the exhaust note more than makes up for the whiny cam noise...

    Thanks for your answers!
I've heared a few VFR's so far and yes they al have that sound!
But there is some difference between all of them in loudness of that high whiny sound!
The one of my girlfriend makes far more of that sound then mine.
Could be some wear in the engine that makes the sound increase.
So for now i except it and keep on driving the VFR800. I'ts still a great bike to drive! By the way the one i have isn't red anymore but Lamborghini orange!
I'm not sure if i posted some pictures of my bike yet but you will see them soon over here!

Possible the oil is a different viscosity in the red vs yellow one.

Are you referring to the whine of the cam gears?
