    Mr. Colorblind here...

Anyone have a close match to the frame color on the 84VF1000F, preferably in a spray can.

    thanks

    John

or should I strip it and have it powdercoated?

I've been told VHT Black Oxide case paint is a dead ringer for Honda Black.

The 1000F frame color is a metallic silver, not black.

Are you trying to fix a small area or do the whole frame? If doing the whole frame I'd powdercoat it. Not sure what paint will match for a small area. It looks like an easy shade to match though.

Sorry 'bout that. Big "Duh" on my part.

I've used some touch up paint a couple days ago on my frame. Haven't checked it yet. I'll check it out and let y'all know.

The frame has some small nicks, scratches and wear. Getting the bike back on the road after sitting for 5 years!

I just used Rust-olem in a small (1/2 pint) can and a model airplane paint brush to paint this one. It was "aluminum" color. After it dried it came out a nice silver that closely matched the original. Took a couple hours, but was worth it.

    Thanks EddieVT,

    That does look nice.

See your saddlebags, have you done any distance on your bike? Wondering if it would make a good tourer.

I have done several 400-500 mile days on it, but were all day trips. I have, however, done tons of touring on my '82 Sabre with those same bags on it. It is a very similar bike, even has the same engine except for a shaft drive and a few engine details. A first gen ceptor makes a great sport/tourer.
Using a small brush insted of a spray can eliminated any chance of overspray. The rust-olem alum paint is as thin as water, but covers extremely well, and matched the color better than I could have hoped for.
OOOPS!! I just looked at the can of paint and found that I used
"ACE Hardware's Metallic Finish, Chrome" (198A129 Chrome) ACE #1168665
Sorry for the mistake. It dries to a nice silvery metallic finish, not even close to chrome.
