it sounds the same as my wifes uncle was telling me one of his sons used to own an Alfa Romeo and that 'everyone loves an Alfa until they have owned one'

They could always re-engineer it with a GM sourced V8 engine, not only was it more reliable it was much more fun..

used to have a Monaro with a 308 engine, the only V8 I ever had,I remember that there were a couple of Jag XJ's going around Newcastle (NSW) with Chevy V8 motors and were said to be quicker and more reliable than the original Jag motors, cannot beat the sound of a V8

Harleys don't stop well, they don't go well, and they don't corner well. They make a lot of noise which must make some riders think this makes their penis larger.....Viagra is a lot less expensive, LOL! Only reason I can see to have one.....but that doesn't work either....so says my old biology teacher...LOL!

Me too. I'll ride anything. I won't necessarily buy anything, but given the chance I'll ride anything with 2 wheels and a motor. I'd even ride a mini-bike like in dumb and dumber and smile like an idiot while doing it.

I was near the local Harley dealer the other day, pulled in the parking lot with the intent of just looking at what was new, different and hadn't been in a Harley store in years. When I saw in the window when walking up that there were so many Harley's in the store the were packing in there so close together one literally couldn't move through the aisles and look at them, I just didn't even open the door and go in. Returned to my car and went home. Harley must be cramming them to the dealers or this dealer doesn't understand inventory control. In either case, they aren't selling as their latest reporting states. I wonder why....

If you remember when Harley started opening those huge warehouse type stores, that was their heyday, but also the beginning of the end. Here's why, they made dealers take more inventory and leverage themselves to cover the huge overhead of those big buildings. this required them to sell significantly more than they would have needed should they stay in their smaller buildings.

It happened to my local dealer, and I saw it happen in many other places. When they couldn't sell enough to pay the rent, the big building shut down and the dealer was S.O.L.

At least, that is how it was explained to me.

Geez, I remember these things. Said to be powered by an HDT/HSV engine producing (450?HP). Trouble was that in chganging it from front to mid-engined, they effectively "upset" the handling, resulting in a car with VERY interesting handling characteristics. That, and the fact that they are probably unobtanium these days...

To quote a blurb on the car from Carsales...

"Prices for the Giocattolo (Italian for toy) were high – $90,000 – but you got a lot of bang for your buck. There were leather Recaro seats, bespoke instruments, a premium sound system, a decently sized boot and even a bottle of Bundaberg rum included in the tool kit.

What really added to the cost was the use of Kevlar and carbon fibre, and Alfa's reluctance to sell Halstead bare shells. Instead he had to buy the full car and then strip everything that wasn't needed. The German ZF transaxle was also made expensive by our country's import taxes of the time.

In the end this pushed the company into liquidation and Halstead lost millions when production wrapped up in 1989. Only 15 cars were made in the three-year stint.
