Hi everyone, I actually joined years back after selling my CBF1000 with solid intentions of purchasing a VFR1200 which turned into a Ducati Multistrada which turned into a Ducati Monster which turned into..a break from riding due to family circumstances. Previous bikes include Honda V4's (V65 Magna, Sabre) which I restored then sold. I'm back now and super excited that I finally own a gear driven cam V4 ..a super clean '01 VFR 800 (Blue); all stock except for Corbin seat and double bubble screen. It's currently in storage however I took some quick pics before it was put to bed for winter. Planning on lots of maintenance and a few mods but nothing drastic. Looking forward to learning more thanks to this fantastic forum. Cheers, Tom
Welcome Tom. Nice ride!. Love the colour. As much as I prefer the white, it like the red has become far too common. That blue though, like the yellow, is rare enough that it will turn heads.
Thanks lads, it has 36,200 km/s (22k miles). Was not abused that I can see and was garage kept, the rubber is still somewhat pliable at the brake hoses and vacuum lines. Other than some peg scratches and a small ding in the muffler it’s mint. Cheers, Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine was garage kept too but ridden like a cheap two bit hoar in between garage naps. Surpassed the 217,000 km in Baja a few weeks ago.
Very nice, love that blue, what's the Honda name for that, is it Tahiti Blue? Anyway, I love my '01 VFR. I don't know what your opinion of aftermarket exhaust canisters is but here's mine: I own an example of both "sub-generations" of the 5th Gen VFR, a '99 and an '01. The biggest difference between the two 5th Gen sub-generations is that the '00-'01 has a catalyst in the exhaust collector section. Both sub-generations have exactly the same OEM exhaust canister. The result of this is that on the non-catalyst '98-'99 bikes the exhaust sound is acceptable (nicely sporty), but on the '00-'01 bikes the catalyst takes away too much of the wonderful V-4 rumble. Putting an aftermarket canister, like a Vance & Hines S4 or a Fuel will bring out the V-4 rumble without making the bike obnoxious. Just my opinion. Here's a pic of my Veefallo, the Fuel canister (without DB-killer installed) sounds great without offending people.
Nice ride there Greg! That Fuel pipe looks great, did you source that directly from the manufacture? Funny I’ve been researching exhaust and have actually bookmarked the Fuel one as well as Delkevic, Mivv and some others for both aesthetics and that amazing V4 sound. I did a quick look for the blue and it seems to be Candy Tahitian Blue - paint code - PB-215 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks, the bike was also a "garage queen", I purchased it a year ago (early October 2017) up in Longmont, Colorado with only 11,500 miles on it. It now has just over 14,000 miles on the odometer. I bought the Fuel exhaust canister from another member over on VFRDiscussion.com forum. The exhaust was still new in the box, the seller purchased it then decided to go with a different exhaust (and a different length of canister, I think) so it never was installed on his VFR. I bought it in early October, then I mailed it down to Huntsville, Alabama which is where I keep the '01 VFR (I spend a lot of time down there so I got the second 5th Gen to ride when I'm there). I did the install in mid-November when I went down for the holidays. My opinion is that the Fuel is a good exhaust, a bit better than the Delkevic. I don't know anything about the Mivv, so no comparison thoughts there. The overall fit was great and the installation only took about 30 minutes.
Hi TomfromOn. Welcome here. Thats a great looking machine. I have a 2000 since new and LOVE IT. Just make sure you have an updated rr and you are good to go. Enjoy that sweet VFR.
Thank you Laker. Nearly 19 years with the same bike...wow. Now that says something there. I haven’t even properly ridden mine yet and can’t friggin wait till Spring. At least I can get some things started now though. Cheers, Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
