IMG_0631.JPG IMG_0633.JPG Ok, I was frigging around mounting the fairing on my 1998 vfr and noticed that there should be two pins on the back of my headlight that were missing. I bought a new to me headlight, it's missing them too (it came off a vfr that was converted to a street fighter, wasn't on a bike that was wrecked or anything)
Has anyone else discovered this problem? If so, any easy fixes?
I think I have a plan to address it, but I was wondering if anyone else has come across it first.

Cheapest and easiest way is to epoxy in a bolt that's just smaller in diameter than is required then put heat shrink over the the threads and cut to size.

You have the Union Jack as your home flag. Are you sure you are not a Manitoba farmer? LOL. They fix everything without buying supplies. All that is needed on a Manitoba farm is left over bailer twine and a few rolls of duck tape.

Thanks for the compliment - I think!

I'm not against buying stuff It's just for a non structural item spending more than the cost of a bolt is crazy.

And too be fair you asked for the easy fix - I added the cheap part of it for free....lol

For this kind of repair , my go-to solution is plastic welding. The soldering iron type of tool is perfect for that job.

Apparently zip ties are the perfect welding rods for our plastics. Saw a video, matter of fact I have watched it a few times, on just how to do this making repairs to cracked fairings . A British guy. I will try to find it again and share the link.

I'm back. There are tonnes of videos on YouTube on plastic welding so I stopped looking for the one I was referring to.

I have my inner fender that is cracked all to hell that I think I will have a go at restoring this winter while I rehab my hip. Maybe I will post a thread on it.

Zip ties are usually made from nylon, so they could be used to kind of hold stuff together. However, factory plastics are made from ABS. The good thing is that ABS is basically all the same, except for some that is colored, or has UV resistant components. You can just buy a piece of ABS pipe from the hardware store, and it's great! I had a spare piece of black ABS pipe laying around, so I cut it into a bunch of little strips on the bandsaw, and I have been using that same batch for years now.

It was brave of you to take those pictures during what was obviously a pretty severe earthquake.

Yeah, thank god I survived lol
Using my iphone 4 likely doesn't help either, but it's all I have.
