"Odd" exhaust om my new 91 VFR750

My new 91 has a left side exhaust which I find odd. Searching online I found only one picture of a bike with LH exhaust. How odd is it? Probably not Honda, at least the muffler is not, I forget the name on it?

OK some pictures. Two Brothers Racing muffler. Also note Airtech one piece upper coupled with slightly bent stay. Doesn't fit very well. Rattle can red paint. Have about $750 in it so far. If it would only run

 

Although it would be cooler if you actually got that bike up and running, the 2 Bros left exit and rear wheel could get you some decent $!

Do you have any experience with bike restoration? Plenty of guys on the forum who can provide their experience/expertise but would require some level of mechanical aptitude on your part.

 

Hmmmm, Are there a set of 2 Brothers headers on the bike by chance?

 

I've built a couple airplanes, OH'ed a Lycoming aircraft engine and have wrenched my own vehicles for over 50 years so I believe I have some mechanical ability but NO I haven't done much bike restoration. And they are certainly different. One of my best friends is a experienced professional motorcycle mechanics but Honda's are not his first choice. That said he is my go to guy and is willing although I'm sure there is better Honda/VFR specific experience here. I suspect even a good Suzuki mechanic would have a learning curve on a vintage bike of a different make.

That's why I'm here. Right now the bike will run/idle but that's about all. We went over the carbs. yesterday and found issues. Now I suspect the fuel pump...tank is low. I'll try putting more gas in. Problem is I'm cheap. I just ordered a cheap pump. Once I figure it out I'm willing to install a good OEM pump, don't like to be stuck along the road, if that's what it needs?

PS I'm looking for a decent ride with more punch than my SV650 If my exhaust is worth something I may consider a trade...down the road sometime..

 

I would say if you're putting airplanes together, your mechanical aptitude would be more than sufficient. I'm also sure your mechanic friend would be able to deal with whatever ails your bike. I like to see bikes get restored whenever possible but time and money is what usually prevents that from coming to fruition. I will add though, the 3 Gen is a little harder to find parts for but not impossible. Good luck with whatever path you take.

Thanks. You right about my friend Dave. As i said in the mechanics forum I took the carbs home, put them on and it ran worse, would idle but wouldn't take throttle over 4000 rpm static. I talked to Dave and he asked if I had put the airbox back on? No. I put it completely back together and BINGO it ran fine. I didn't understand how finely tuned these systems are. I'm learning.

Maybe get tags Monday?

Yea, I like red and white if not all red. Had paint left over. IH red tractor paint from Surplus City.

 

That RC36 looks nice!

HRC looks might be over the top and too "wannabe"? Or not... That left side exhaust would fit the picture I guess.
