I'm glad you're still OK, I wish people would read a thread like this and understand the real reality of going down wearing gear verses no gear.
Sure, you still got hurt, but not having to deal with skin grafts makes it a lot easier to recover. That and the fact that your skull is still in one piece.
Had a friend years ago go down in a parking lot at barely more than a walking pace and spend weeks in the hospital dealing with skin grafts that would have been avoided if he had been wearing his gear.
ATGATT is a promise I made to myself AND my family, if I'm going to ride a bike then I will at the very least do what I can to protect myself.
It is a personal choice and I will talk with friends that ride without it once and if they still don't then I've done my part.

The next anti ATGATT person you talk to tell them to run as fast as they can then throw themselves on the ground. They will probably say that is stupid. And you say "exactly".

Funny. This same argument can be applied to those who think they don't need to wear seatbelts. They are really fast in their reaction and strong in the arms. They can throw their arms up and protect themselves in a collision.

News flash morons. How fast can you run? Maybe 15 MPH if you are really fast? More likely around 12? So run as fast as you can at a concrete wall, and at the last moment, while running hard as you can, throw your arms up to stop yourself...…...I will watch. I have the beer and popcorn ready.

glad you're ok. I do have some advice.

Don't do that again. I have tried crashing and I have tried not crashing.

    I recommend not crashing.

Oh great, now I've got performance anxiety. Who wants to be the next person to crash and have to come here and hear something like "Hey Dingleberry, can't you read? Reg told everyone - No More Crashing!"

    haha j/k Reg...

That's how I explained it to my daughter when she was younger and didn't understand the concept, she was wearing shorts and a tank top at the time. I suggested that she run as fast as she can then try to slide on the sidewalk. It took her a second then her eyes got really big and I got a firm NO WAY!
She got it and she was only about 5 years old at the time.
Like I said, it's a personal choice but when I see a young kid on the back of a bike (usually a cruiser) wearing a half cap, shorts, t-shirt and flip flops just like Dad in front I think it should be considered child abuse. Anyone that tries to argue against that just proves my point.

Well, I'm new here to this forum and don't really know anyone yet but I'm glad to hear you are recovering, Lint. I'm going to download that photo of your helmet and share it with some family members who ride without any helmet. They live in WI where helmets are optional. I've been trying to gently coax them over the years to wear at least a helmet but it hasn't worked... at all. Get well and stay healthy.

Better than that ask them to rub their bellend up and down on a cheese grater. Has same effect on the skin .

I've always been a avid believer in wearing a helmet. My suggestion to naysayers was simple, sit down on the concrete floor
and allow yourself to fall backward. I have never, ever had anyone take me up on it. And you are still hitting the floor with
less energy than off a bike.

Credit also to your helmet, what make ? get well soon.

after any accident i ask myself what i could have done to avoid it. what could you have done, what decision caused the problem. i don't think putting blame on an RV is valid.

Okay people so an update on our boy Randy
    (AKA LINTDUDE)
Been back in the hospital since last Thursday with excessive pain, came to find out he had blood and fluid surrounding one of his lungs, drain tube in his back and hopefully he’ll be leaving to be home with his incredibly loving family for his recovery.
The guys a bull, he’ll pull through to ride another day, and probably another bike.

damn that sucks. Getting a chest tube hurts like hell but it'll do the job. They hurt coming out also. They will prb keep him in one day after they remove it, but sometimes they let you go home the same day.
