Hi, have a 07 VFR planned to tour on it but never did, am not getting any younger and I like the eighth generation features, looks and prices. Have done many 300 mile plus days but not multiple high mileage days. With Honda's bar risers have any of you toured for a week or more and have high mileage days back to back? Can your body handle it what changes did you make so you could do it? What are your thoughts on touring with the eighth generation VFR. Am in decent shape for forty plus years old but on paper there is a BMW Sport Tour that might be a better choice but I like the V4 motor and that is a big deal to me. Please help me make the right decision. Thank you.

Have you posted elsewhere about this? Have done several 500 mile plus days on mine.
When on tour regularly do several 300 mile days on the trot on a std 14 plate bike with jus5 the usual niggles everyone gets after a long day in the saddle. Have done same on a zx9r as well.

No problems touring on it, love mine. I’m over 50.

At the end of the day regardless of what bike your on whether it be a gold wing or the latest race rep it’s the rider is the one who is either bike fit or not. If your not bike fit or fit for your bike then you won’t be able to do the mileage’s your asking.

Best way get out there and start clocking up the miles.

I bought mine new in Denver and rode it 1881 miles (3 days) home to Orlando in August. Easy ride actually. All stock of course. If I was to tour regularly, I might add a Throttlemeister. I used a simple throttle lock on the trip. It was much better than my old 07 for sure. I will admit that my gen 2 Busa is a bit more comfy.

At 40 plus you should be able to ride anything anywhere.
I'm 55 and have no problem doing 750km days on my 5G.
The most I've done on one day is 1050km after 4 days of 600 + km days, and I must admit it hurt but it did get better as the day went.
Go ride, it gets better the more you do it.
Nothing like planning a long ride with mates, leaving early and hitting the open road.
Keep away from motorways, stick to back roads, small towns, dirt roads, it makes the trip.

I am doing multi-day trip in the Alps on mine, typically 8 to 12 hours in the saddle per day. Recently installed risers and lower pegs to add a little more comfort.

The VFR is not as comfortable as my previous XT12000ZE Tenere. My legs are long and my bones are old, so the leg room on the VFR feels a little more cramped. This however is a compromise I am happy to make, because you get a lot of sport bike competence in return.

If my riding would be 12 hours per day on straight american highways, I would probably chose a Tenere again. But as my riding involves twisties and mountain passes, the VFR is a much better choice for me. I am 56 years old, btw.

Why not keep what you have and add something more comfy to the stable?

My mile eater is a Tiger 800XCx.

I took a trip all way down from Baltic states down to Italy, crossed Adriatic sea to Albania, and all way up back home. Two weeks in saddle. I do have bar risers honestly planing to remove them, but one thing i want to change is saddle. If i would only tour, i would buy touring motorcycle, but i like sport bikes, i like to drive in town or short trips outside it, i travel across Europe and plan to go on weekend race track for fun. And i cant find better suiting bike for these tasks.

What city in LT are you from BalticVFR? As is ir is LT.

Back to topic. Like others mentioned, ergos are very unique to each person and many of us have different pain threshold or different joint issues that start to ache after long day of riding. VFR is comfortable for me up to 400 miles with a couple stops mixed in. I have bar risers but no lowering pegs. Lower pegs would help at the end of the day especially on long stretches; however.

I fitted bar risers and a wild ass seat cushion. Also invested in a pair of motoskivees, together these have made a huge difference on long trips. Currently on holidays in New Zealand and did 4,300km in 10 days on a 2005 VFR 800 with the seat cushion and the motoskivees. Rode from Christchurch to Arrowtown on the first day (796km on VERY twisty roads) and although I knew I had been in the saddle all day I wasn’t overly sore. (I am 59 years old)

Same as an airhawk motorcycle cushion just a different brand. It’s a inflatable rubber cushion inside a cover that attaches to your stock seat withVelcro straps. Best to google it for a full description. Some people swear by them some don’t like them. I definitely feel more comfortable for longer with it. I also lowered my seat which makes the riding position more upright but bends the knees a little more, up tp you which you feel more comfortable with. Interesting to see what you decide with the gen 8, ABS, TC, and heated grips are the main benefits I guess. I am super happy with mine but I don’t know if I would spend the money if I had a reliable earlier gen. Then again nothing like a new bike under you. Let us all know what you decide. Hope this helps?

I just looked up the under ware. I think that I will try it out. Thanks. They have a full length now and I do not know if you took that option or not. But my Ass is always killing me on the 8th gen. I know that I have to choose between so many options and costs. $90 buck for riding undies or a seat conversation. Thanks

With a throttle lock and a slightly wider/flatter seat, mine was good for a 8400 mile trip. It's a great bike for touring, especially with it's long distances between gas stops.
