Well after lots of searching for a chin mount for my gopro I decided to make my own. I was not crazy about what was on the market. I had a cheap headband mount for the gopro and cut the bottom 1" off the plastic mount. The curve closely matched the front of my helmet. I used 3m tape on the center section and it was pretty secure. Just to make sure I drilled 2 small holes in the strap slots and put in washer head screws. This sucker is not falling off. I did buy a short curved extension set on ebay for $10. The mount is small and I do not plan on taking it off. Total cost $10. 20180301_175638.jpg 20180301_175543.jpg

Edit OK maybe the screws were too much. I took them out and will go with just the tape. I am 90% sure it will do the job

    A quick tip:

Add a lanyard to the camera, you can put it around your neck.this insures even if the mount breaks you don't lose the camera.
I drilled a 2mm hole into the base of the case just above where the mount is on mine & secured it with a length of cave line.

Great job - have you made any vids yet? That is the best place for mounting the camera IMO - the view is about as realistic a POV as you can get. I have several vids on my YT channel with my camera mounted in the same spot - see link in my sig.

I have shot video with a fork mount and side helmet mount. Here in maine bike season has not started yet. I did not like the view from the side mount. This was the simplest and best I could come up with.

Do you realise that you have unwittingly in the event of an accident added some more rotational leverage to your helmet bu screwing it into p,ace?

Nice mounting hondaman. I use two methods to attach chin mounts. The GoPro curved base with their/3M double sided stick (which has never come off) and a clip on mount called a Dango. I never use a safety tie/strap. If I go down I want the GoPro to snap off clean and fall away, rather than be tethered to bang and interfere with the helmet protection. I would rather take a loss of the GoPro if it were to flip off (again, which it has never done, even under the force of 170+ mph).

The Dango, I use for other riders appearing in videos, who do not want to stick on a mount, because it is easy on/off and pretty solid. But I offer them the option to tether or not.

If your GoPro has internal stabilization (or you use a post production NLE stabilizer) you should get some rock solid video with that mount. Even if not, they will look descent. I would not have put screws into my helmet, as that would reduce the protection integrity, but I understand your reasoning.

One track day organization I rode with didn't allow anything attached to the helmet, comm system , camera, anything that wasn't part of the helmet. I assume this was for liability reasons but makes sense, if the camera were to catch on something on the tarmac, it might cause an unexpected jerking of your head, possibly causing a severe neck injury Having something that could/would break away if it hit the ground but would hold if the mount were to give out while riding would be the best of both worlds IMO.

The tether ISN'T to protect the gopro - !!!
Its to stop it flying into the vehicle behind when you butt the tank or handle bars coming down from a wheelie..!

Putting screws into the helmet is not something that I'd do -
In an accident or incident I WANT the MOUNT to snap / break off..
