    Hello,

Took my FR500 for its first ride this morning.

Took drove it for about 40 minutes. Parked. Took care of some business (~20 min).

Got back on and hit the interstate, after travelling ~5 miles at ~80 mph in top gear, I noticed I began to lose power.

After I got off the interstate, when I came to a stop at the light, the bike died, and oil light turned on. Wouldn't start.

I checked the oil. Good levels and clean.

I waited 10 minutes, bike turned back on. Was able to drive it home, but upon pulling into the driveway, it died again with oil light turning on.

Sensor? Thermostat? Where should I begin?

Sounds like a shortage of fuel flow to the carbs to me. Blockage at the fuel tap maybe? Does your bike have a vacuum petcock or fuel pump? Air vent into the tank blocked?

Wouldn't worry about the oil light, whenever an engine stops it loses oil pressure so the light will come on.

Huge relief about the oil light. It just had the petcock replaced at a very reputable dealer prior to purchase. How would I test to see if those items are clogged?

The 500 has a vacuum petcock and no fuel pump. I would check that with a vacuum applied to the petcock, that fuel flows freely out of the end of the fuel hose when that is disconnected from the side of the carbs. Also take a look at the vacuum hose and fittings and verify the hose has no leaks/cracks.

I presume the fuel cap has the air vent so I would inspect that and make sure it can flow air freely.

the '86 VF500 did have a fuel pump maybe and a failure-prone relay too.:confused:

Also, the stock petcock has one tube that must not be connected to anything or blocked.

it the reputable dealer replaced the petcock, what did he use, as NEW ones are NOT available ?

    whatsa FR500 ? :Bolt:
